Virgin Media - great service but they really do test my patience at times. (renewal costs)

What do people do when their broadband goes down and you are wfh?
Got a message the other day saying they are doing works in my area and it may go down at any point today. Went into an EE store yesterday to ask for a 4g dongle and they wanted £45 up front and then £15 a month, so i said no way. I just want a payg thing to cover me in these instances. My phone is with 3 and the signal is shocking so not reliable for tethering.

Shouldn't virgin provide a dongle or some sort of back up?

This is why I would never go to virgin.

I've never had an issue (a day without BB) since 2020 when I went to WFH.
Sure there have been days with disconnects and slow speeds but never anything that's caused issue.

But the local fb group is always moaning about virgin being down. It's so frequent that I would never go for it. Even if it was cheapest service.

Who are you with?

I can't fault virgin other than the odd day like this, service is solid.

having been with cable for probably going 20+ years its only been down like 2-3 times and not for long which I think is really good going, still wished had full fibre so could find better deals though :(

Same, my vm contract is up in 12 months, luckily have full fibre options available now.
Some people make it sound like FTTP is bullet proof, yet I see that community fibre was down recently for some, so they all can get issues. fttp has its advantages though.

Riddle me this.

Just had the end of contract come up.

Been paying 18ppm on a 20ppm tariff (got a no bills for a couple of months as a loyalty bonus)

But the email seems to say I can stay on a rolling contract for 20ppm?

I've never seen this.. Am I. Miss reading?

Think so, you will be out of contract and free to cancel when ever you want if the price ever changes in the future.

Just called VM, best price they can do (as i'm still in contract until April 24) is £63 for basic TV, landline and 1Gig BB.

I was thinking I can reduce the costs from the £91 i'm paying at the moment for maxit TV, 1Gig & talk weekends and cancel my o2 contract with is around £6 a month for 4GB data but then they said if you cancel your o2 contract then they will inform us and it can reduce your BB speed back to 500Mb.

So essentially I either agree to £63 now for a new 18 month contract or wait until next April when i'm out of contract and go somewhere else and hopefully by then CityFibre have done all their installations in my area.

Or get rid of the TV package, plenty of alternatives and ditch the landline, you have a mobile right? Everyone has unlimited calls and texts with any provider.

I just had the same thing with VM, went from £72 to £40 for M500. Unfortunately i live in an area where i can only get VM fiber so can't really play the "I'm leaving" routine, always envious of people that can get fiber from multiple companies. I remember helping someone a couple of years ago that was paying over 100 a month on a rolling contract getting non fiber etc and went online and could see she could get fiber from every provider for a 3rd of of price and still just stayed with her current provider because she didn't want the hassle of switching, these are the people that these companies love!

I logged a complaint with VM over 2 weeks ago and just today got a phone call to discuss. They can only offer to reduce my current services from £91 to £84 which will then be on a new 18 month contract which will probably go back up early next year when the annual increases kick in.

Could not offer any deal on just 1Gig broadband as that would mean 'reducing' my services which they say they cannot do as i'm still in contract. I said either you offer me a deal on 1Gig BB now with no ties to a mobile contract (it reduces the speed of the BB by half if you cancel your o2 sim) or I will sign up to another provider in the next few months hopefully when Cityfibre have completed their install. The guy then said they will call me back when he's had a chance to speak to their manager.
