Virgin Media increasing broadband speeds by 20 - 200% starting February

Ah, well I despise Torrents so upload doesn't really bother me.

I'm on VM 100mb service, no idea what the upload speed is, nor do I care to be honest. I don't upload enough to warrant needing faster.

I do upload photo's to the net, but as its a small file it takes seconds, even on just a 1mb upload service.

I need upload quite a bit as I stream upnp over my home vpn.

I use amazons free cloud drive for cloud backup (and the hope that amazon cloud player for my music will be available in the UK at some point), so for me if my connection goes from 30/3 to 60/6 then that will make a big impact on how long it takes me to backup.

High upload speeds are also good for remote backup (as said above) and especially for home-workers who require a VPN to connect in to work.

Leech not seed.... Seeders ruin broadband services for the rest of us.

No seeders = no file for people to download.
So it's a good job for torrent users that not everybody has the same approach to them as you do.

Awesome! I'm already on 10Mb/s but to be upgraded to 20 is fab.

10 for me is enough for everything. Only thing that sometimes bothers me is the throttle, but that's going to be increased now with the upgrade right?

Because they're stupid enough to be breaking the law ? Must 'downloaders' are unaware of what they're actually doing.

If you want to download - use usenet - anyone with half a brain cell knows that.

If you want to seed use your own private network not flipping home broadband

I thought you knew how P2P worked Subliminal Aura!

Yes I know how p2p suckers innocent people into doing something that they shouldn't be

This might be interesting for local people to me (PO12 area) but I was pumping my car tyres up 30mins ago when a VM van pulls up behind waiting to use it too, I asked one of the engineers when the double speed rollout is happening in this area and he said March.

Now this is a LOT earlier than what the double speed website says (it says October 2012 onwards).

I'm more inclined to believe the engineer knows when they're going to be going round updating people in the area and that the website is just covering its ass and being quite conservative with the dates.

I have never understood, why people want such fast upload speeds? I very rarely need to upload data.

Just because you don't, that doesn't mean others don't.

I upload a lot to drop box and youtube, play a lot of P2P (xbox 360) games and use splashtop to stream media when I'm working away from home.

Youtube is my main factor and I have 10GB of webspace that I regularly upload files for people to so having a fast upload is essential.

3Mb is very good, being able to upload at +400KB/sec at the moment is nice but having double that means my Youtube videos will upload twice as fast \m/

June onwards for me.

Currently on the L package, so will be upgraded to 20Mbps — wonder if it's worth upgrading to XL to get the free upgrade to 60Mbps...

You will with cloud services becoming more mainstream. I back up everything on Dropbox, so upload speed is very useful.
Also for anyone who hosts game servers or websites.
And films to things like YouTube.
