Virgin Media increasing broadband speeds by 20 - 200% starting February

Don't get me wrong, this is welcome news but I'm another who still hasn't seen their upload upgrade yet, April 2012 the pdf says. Doesn't exactly bode well for these download upgrades, Mid-2013 if I'm lucky I expect! :o

Our area says April 2012 for the old upload speed upgrade too, however I've been checking the modem upload speed (http://192.168.100.1/CmOpConfig.asp) every few weeks and just found out we've been upgraded finally.

These new upgrades will come April-July 2012 for me too, so I'm glad my area isn't in the back of the queue this time. It might be the same for your area.

This is from a VM rep:
Will the 120Mb package have 12 Mbps upstream? Or more?

Yes, the long term plan is all speeds will have a 10:1 ratio but the upload speed increase might follow a bit after the download.

This means going from an upload of 1.5Mbps to 10Mbps in the space of ~5 months for me.

Do you have to upgrade your router when upgrading from 50MB - 100MB?

Doubling everyone's speed is a pretty big job - we've got over 4 million Virgin Media customers who will receive double speeds, but rest assured, my fittest, fastest engineers will be in your area from July and going as fast as they can.

Don't worry, they've got everything covered. And if we need to give you a new modem to cope with the extra speed, they'll let you know. Then as soon as they're done, I, Richard Branson, will be in touch to say your speed upgrade is up and running. So enjoy.

April - July for me.

I was looking to upgrade from my 10Mb package upto 30. I think I'll wait and upgrade to 20Mb for nothing.

Nice one VM!

Has this thing on the right and says july onwards, im presuming this year and not 2013 tho. Doesnt say to in the date for upgrade just july and onwards which can mean maybe july maybe 6 months after july tho. :/

they'll do it for you free of charge

That still doesn't fully answer my question. I know they'll do it if it's required, but I need to know whether I will be getting a new router. I ask this because if I am I won't need to buy a wireless homeplug (assuming that there isn't any wifi issues with the new router :p)

"If you have our up to 100Mb connection, you've already got the fastest widely available broadband in the UK. So we'll be taking a bit off your monthly bill, instead. And as an extra thank you, we'll be boosting your speeds up to 120Mb."

Not seen anyone else mention that. So cheaper and faster. Way to go Virgin. Even better my area is March/April

How much cheaper?

100Mb for me is going to be £45 a month which I don't have a problem with now, especially considering that the upgrades won't be here until between Oct 2012 and June 2013.

April - July for me on CR8 postcode.

Quite frankly I can manage on 20mb just perfectly, it's the upload speed I want increased. Uploading my dj mixes and large photos and what not still takes an absolute age when it's not even 0.5mb Upload !!

Sort it out VM !!

Does that mean the 50mb package will come down in price too? My exchange is already upgraded.
