Virgin Media Upload Speed Upgrades

Middlesbrough here, I got the new upload Friday but I don't know if this is a trial like some areas have already had, or if it is the full proper roll out, only time will tell

I would say that its final, Since they have announced it i dont think they would still be trialing.

So is this new Traffic shaping for "P2P" (Newsgroups isn't even P2P!) being rolled out with the upgrades or have they shipped that already? Because I haven't got the upload limits and I'm not being shaped on newsgroups (Still getting managed though when the limit is hit, which seems to be happening more and more in the day with people using the iplayer et al.

Traffic management seems fine to me.
Its a rare occasion one would be downloading more than 3.5gigs of data in the evening after dowloading 7gigs of data during the day, and even if I am traffic shaped, I still end up faster than most folks on adsl.

Oddly their policy seems to have a misprint working from 10am-3pm and 4pm-9pm..... so between 3pm to 4pm one can do whatever one wants?

Isn't it all very convenient? YouTube works perfectly 24/7, even at 1080p since forever. Suddenly even 420p won't play properly, but it's OK because voila! VM are unveiling traffic shaping to 'help make sure things like YouTube work properly'. Ohhh... Kay.... :\

FFS, YouTube has been awful over the last couple of days, constant buffering when it's worked fine up to now.

Maybe it's just a coincidence, hmm.

Middlesbrough here. No speed upgrade for me yet.

Additionally, I have been experiencing significant lag spikes while gaming during prime time since around the 28th of September. Since I've never had issues that caused this level of annoyance I am assuming these network changes are to blame.

From my experience some youtube videos load very fast while other are very slow. I think it's nothing to do with the broadband speeds but how youtube works.

Every video that has been watched thousands of times seems to load super fast while some of the less popular ones take forever to load.

i left virgin because it couldn't handle a simple ssh connection.

what is the point of 100mbit/100mbit if latency is crap and packet loss is through the roof.

since moving to 10mbit/1mbit adsl 2 i no longer have to hold down a key on my ssh connection so that it does not time out.

i still find myself holding down 333333333333333333 in to my putty session even though i no longer need to do it, i did it for so long it just became a habit :(

I find Youtube random, have done since I joined VM.

I can load a video at 480p and watch the bar creap up, yet selecting 1080p the bar shoots up....next video it's the other way around.

I cannot say that I've ever had latency issues with my Virgin Media connection, and I've been with them for a long time. In fact, that is the one area that I've found cable to be vastly superior to the ADSL connections I've had to deal with in the past. It's a pity you were forced to move away from VM in order to resolve the issue.

I noticed Youtube has been pants, in fact, the connection is nowhere near as snappy as it used to be, before I had other massive issues that was (about a year ago now). My ping still isn't great.

I pay £18 a month for 10mb, is there anywhere I can go on a rolling contract for about the same/more INCLUDING line rental? (as I don't pay line rental atm)

I want to ditch Virgin but I'm just a cheap-ass student, so it has to be cheaper/same price.

The YouTube issue is probably related to a problem with VM/Google peering. Maybe the link is saturated?
