Vista Beta 2 Goes Public Today

well so far so good, started downloading vista drivers and then we will se how it gets on.

i thought it would be using more system memory, only 844mb used when i have 2 ie7's up, mp11 and 6 tabs in the first. :)

I found why my previous 2 downloads were ghayed up, the download manager screwed it up for me both times.
Im beginning to think I have the same problem. The md5s are ok but it wont run from DVD and if i mount and try, it bsods at first reboot ( after expanding copied files) :(

For those who are having the same problem with MSN Messenger, I sorted mine - must have been something to do with the way Vista sends/recieves internet data opposed to XP but I ended up upgrading the firmware on my Router (DG834G) and it solved the problem. Now just waiting on drivers...

ok so i'm having some trouble...

Right then, the download went fine and it's now written onto DVD. Found another hard drive to install on, so i don't mess up my XP, and went to install.

So i reset the comp, changed my boot priority and selected the new hard drive as the primary, i'm given a splash screen saying that windows is loading files, which takes a while. Those files are then installed and it attempts to load into what looks like some sort of set-up screen. At no point before this was i asked to format or select the partion to install etc.

The screen that i'm then shown is a 16bit colour screen, with my cursor showing in the middle, but nothing else. I left it for 5 mins to see if anything happened, but nothing.

What can you suggest.

yup. it will want the password for the default administrator account you specified during windows xp setup. if you've forgotten it, you should be able to change it with your normal xp account in windows (assuming you have full admin rights). :)

Thing is, i never have any passwords set up on the computer and i have just one account with full access (asks you a name when you format) I've never set an admin password before and there is no admin user in the control panel > users area

Also, when it asks what partition you want to go into, i presume its the one with Vista installed upon?

v. strange. that's one beasty rig you've there.

i only have a dothan @ 2.4ghz, 1gb ram and an x800gto (128mb ddr1). i have all the visual affects on and it's fine for me. can't really tell the difference between this and my xp setup (which is heavily tweaked with services disabled etc).
The reason is drivers. All available drivers for Vista right now are optimised for compatability only. Performance won't begin creeping up until Vista goes final and vendors start taking serious steps at rewriting their drivers for Vista performance.

in xp, right click my computer, select manage, expand local users and groups. the administrator account should be there. if there is only your account then i guess you would use that password. also, when booting to the recovery console, you want to logon to the xp install (to remove vista of course... :p)

must be my old intel chipset doing me proud then.... :p

OK, so i formatted the old install on the old hard-drive using the Xp disc i had, and was planning to try and do the install in XP. However the disc won't load and set-up won't start because it says D:/ is not a valid Win32 application.

I take it that this is because i am attempting to load the 64bit version, so i've resorted to downloading the 32 bit version aswell.

any help would be great.

I too have downloaded the Vista .iso file but I'm having a problem getting it onto DVD

I can burn the .iso file itself to DVD but can't get it to extract ? I use Easy Creator 6 for my DVD, CD Burning.

At work when we have an .iso file for our company image all i need to do is double click the .iso file & then that auto extracts the image unto the DVD.
We also use Easy Creator 6 at work.

Any ideas what my problem is ? or should i try a different DVD burning software ? Can you recommend to be a free one I can download & provide me with the link ?

Please help me out ;)

Yes, it seems you can't run the x64 installer from the DVD if you're running 32 bit XP. You can boot from the DVD fine and install that way though.

Downloaded it, burned it to DVD. It gets to 16/18% of expanding files and I get an error "An error has occured while laying down the images".

My understanding is I've probably got a corrupt iso file and I'll be needing to download it again. This is somewhat problematic as I've recently changed ISP to one with a 40GB a month limit...

Hi. I just downloaded and installed the new windows vista beta 2. I also installed forceware 88.61 drivers which seems to work all right. But how do I display the classic nvidia control panel? I can only seem to find it in control panel, not like in win xp where I right clicked on desktop>properties>advanced etc. I don't like the new control panel, I want to old one

Oh, and one more question. How do I open regedit? Is it a "run" function like in win xp?

Does that mean I can't run the 64bit Vista from XP (32bit with DT) and that I have to burn it to a DVD?

Does anyone know how to do that aeroglass effect they showed in the vids where you can have all your open apps appear in a 3d effect on your desktop then scroll through them?

One problem here

I can't burn DVDs on the PC, so I have to use the mac, yet the mac can't do boot sectors.

Ah balls. :(

Why is it more than 700mb? why why why why why why XP does fine :/

How much is the install, 4/5gb? you cant fit that on those 4gb i-Drive things.

WTF is microsoft thinking? :p

Any ideas? :(
