Vista Beta 2 Goes Public Today

Ok ive managed to network the laptop up to vista to give it a net connection.
Only reason i can put down with the Wanadoo live box software getting confused is that its something to do with not knowing vista.

But.. when i ask windows to connect to the wireless modem directly it asks for the key and when i enter this it tells me the key is in correct!?! i know its talking rubbish but really am stumped!

2nd attempt at downloading the ISO after the first was corrupt  :

Not impressed.

I really want to try this out, but on my 1mb connection it takes ages and will go over the fair usage policy of our ISP. I had a look on Microsoft's website to see if they send out DVD copies of it and they do.....but it costs £10.98 :(

Worth the money?

Very much a matter of opinion - the idea of paying for Beta software seems a bit unfair to me, can't you find someone with an unmetered connection to download it for you?
That's what i thought, Beta software should be free really. I was expecting to pay for the DVD and packaging/shipping costs but didn't expect it to come to £11

I should be able to get a friend to download it for me, didn't think of that :o

Can anyone help me???

Im trying to install the x64 version but my SATA drives arnt showing up.
I have 2 SATA drives running off the Silicon Image controller, so i take it i need to get some x64 drivers. I've searched round but still have no clue.

My specs are in my sig.
Any help would be greatly appreaciated.
Thanks

ok guys. first major problem here..... :p

how you people getting on with videos? i've installed my usual stuff that is use in xp....

ffdshow
media player classic (along with quicktime and real alternative)

i never had problems in xp. but trying to play some clips in vista results in the whole machine locking up and i have to do a hard reset. using an x800gto gfx card with the latest drivers from ati.com - if anybody can confirm their videos work and what codecs/drivers they are using, please post. :)

Right I've been using the x64 version of Vista since Friday night and my first impressions are its good! a lot more solid then I expected, and so far it hasn't crashed one little bit. Its slightly sluggish at the moment, but thats all due to drivers as they are designed more for compatibility than performance at the moment. BF2 and also Elder Scrolls: Oblivion run flawlessly, but obviously not as quick as XP again due to drivers... If the drivers where designed more for performance than anything else, I would actually be running this as my main OS, as I think its that good and also stable. Sure it uses a lot of RAM but as I have 3Gb available, and with BF2 running at max res and everything on high, it still only uses 2.5Gb like in XP. Oh, and Aero Glass is luurvly :-)

Videos run fine for me in wmp 11 and vlc player. I'm runing it via an onboard chip set at the moment though. vlc player might work for you.

well i found the cause of my problem - aero glass. if i turn it off, my videos play ok. :)

Just got it installed and I really like it but there are a few problems with the nvidia vista drivers, whenever I install them the screen goes black and I have to go into safe mode and do a system restore to fix it.

Also it is very slow, task manager shows that it is using 700mb of RAM with the sidebar closed. Is this normal? I thought it would be less than this.

EDIT: Managed to get the nvidia driver installed, found a different version on guru3d and it works. It is faster now, but still a bit jumpy.

errrm stupid question, just downloaded x86 version and all thats in it (rar file) is a read me file  :o
Same here, I was confused as well. Mount or burn the ISO/RAR file to a DVD and it will work.

Great, I've downloaded this using:

Net Transport - I wake up to find no ISO on my desktop but the download completed - I did a full PC search and found nothing.

WackGet - It downloads about 2.7GB. I then check back on the ISO to see the file size and it's a few MB... I search my whole PC for the proper version... nothing.

FreshDownload on a completley different PC - downloaded the whole thing, I just saw it finish and compile the file when I got up. I check how big the file is and it's 0 bytes. I search the whole PC for the proper version / temporary files and find nothing.

So basically now I've wasted a lot of bandwidth and have no Vista.

Any ideas what could be going wrong please? Both PCs have more than enough space left and are both NTFS.

[Edit]
Oh and to make it even worse, I'm only on 576k.

Craig.

Did you save to disk? It might be worth PM'ing the guy who was offering a DVD for £1...

Maybe it is getting interupted, and stops. Try the FTP Jon has.
