Vista Beta 2 Goes Public Today

Wonder if anyone can help...

I have downloaded the 64bit version on Vista but have been unable to install this on my Dell 9150. I get as far as the drive selection process of the installation but it doesn't find my hard disk as this is in a Raid Array (uses Intel Matrix Storage as the RAID controller).

I've downloaded 64bit drivers for the Intel Raid and loaded these on to a USB stick but when I try to load the driver under the Vista setup, it says it cant find any drivers.

Anyone got any experience/ideas for getting Vista installed on my PC?

Cheers,
Graeme

I downloaded the x86 version and have it running dual-boot with a spare HDD, it runs just fine etc.

I'm having a problem downloading the x64 version though. Every time it finishes, I get this: -

It appears Vista has given my machine a rating of 3.

AMD 2600+ Ahtlon ..... 3.2
1Gig of Ram ..... 3.2
Hard Disk 64 Gig (Partition) ..... 3.8
Graphics (9800 pro) ..... 5.7 (?)
Gaming Graphics 256Mb ..... 4.4

Dont ask how it worked out 3 as the total. Perhaps MS doesnt consider graphics to be important? (Yeah, go buy an XBOX 360 you suckers)

I also get 3 aswell:

AMD64 3700+ @ 2.8Ghz
2gb RAM
120gb sata + 74gb raptor
X1900XT
DFI Lanparty Ultra-D

Part of that has lowercase letters and it needs http:// in front of it.

It's becomming annoying that Vista asks you several times before it lets you do anything, it's like Delete File> Are you sure? > Are your really Sure? > Sorry, you are not authorised to do this > Do you want to authroise this? > The file has been moved to the recycle bin. Empyting the recycle bin is another lot f this. I'm sure there is a way to stop this but I'll see soon.
One of the first things I did.

Start>Control Panel>Security>Security Centre>Other Security Settings>Turn Off User Account Control :)

I'm finding that a bit strange. My graphics card is only 128mB, not 256mB

Main specs:
P4 3.0E (skt 478)
Abit IC7 Max 3
WD Raptor 36.7gB primary drive, split in half for Vista and XP
WD Caviar 200gB data drive
Powercolor 9800 Pro (128mB)
GeiL Ultra 512mB DC.

It gives my machine a rating of 1. I'm not sure if that extremely good or extremely bad though.
Seeing that I'm too lazy to read which way does this scale work? is 1 the best or the worst?

What are your specs? If you have a weaker machine it will be higher is better...

I make that average closer to 4 though...

Well.

That was worth it. Im back on XP Pro. And compared to Vesta (Sorry, vista),
it flys. Really glad I used Ghost prior to Install. 20 mins later and im back on XP
Pro.

Vesta is alright.... I dont think its worth the upgrade. It may be when WinFX is realised. Until then it seems like mega bloatwared version of WindowsXP-Plus (Remember those Windows-plus, Win98 Plus, Win95 Plus, a few screensavers.... lol)

Honestly, stop using Vesta, and ghost XP back on your machine....

Even the boot time is quicker!!!

There was a word somewhere here... hmmm

Ah here: Beta

I don't want to cause any arguments over the above, but it is still in beta meaning it's not finished meaning the final product will probably be quicker and better.

Craig.

Your not by any chance using FAT32 are you?
The X86 is just over 3 gigs, but the X64 is over 4 and FAT won't handle it.

Ok, tried it and still the same with Messenger Live...just will not log in.

Here's the error box that pops up. Has anyone got any version of MSN messenger working on x64? Or can someone try please! :)

Try logging into your router, go to "Firewall Rules", click "Apply"

Every so often my DG834GT won't let MSN log in when I start windows, doing the above lets me sign in :)

Nope, I'm using NTFS and have 95GB free space. :(

Weird.
I noticed that's going to your desktop?
Does it leave something there?

I would have thought the root of C: (or the drive your saving to to) would be better.
If your just downloading using IE, they all sit in temp and are then moved.
Wouldn't mind betting you have a huge chunk in a temp folder.

Anyone else have any problems installing Nvidia drivers fr the GFX. When i installed it it seemed fine, then restarted the computer and it said the drivers werent compatable with this version and is going back to default drivers. I used the beta drivers from the nvidia site. There doesnt seem to be any issues with the gfx etc though, aero still works so it must be using the card.

Billy, does it recognise all 4 cores of your xeon machine? At the moment i installed mine on my main machine as a dual boot but was wondering whether to install it on my xeon rig instead. Although id have to download the x86 version

And does anyone know if there are any Boinc versions suitable for the x64 version of vista and how they perform compaired to the xp ones?

I have a problem Nero 7 won't let me butn it says over 2GB I can't find the settings to do it please could someone tell me what settings to use.

THANKS :)

You should just be able to right click on the ISO > open with Nero and that's it proving you have an empty DVD in the drive.

Aye, I'm downloading it with Firefox and it leaves a .part temporary file on the desktop if it cuts off. If I try to restart the download, though, it deletes the .part file. :(

I am trying the other method now with the ActiveX client etc. Might give me better results than Firefox.

RE: Back on Vesta again.

It was very late last night when I was testing.

Feel a little bit better this morning. Have just installed Vista from a fresh installation rather than the upgrade.

Totally different. Very impressive. I advise against performing the upgrade and going instead for a clean install. Much more responsive. A lot more useable.
