errrm stupid question, just downloaded x86 version and all thats in it (rar file) is a read me file  :o

It is an ISO not a RAR, you must have let WinRAR associate itself with ISOs thats why you get the RAR icon.

If anybody wants i will burn them a copy and post it out.
Free of charge. A donation of a quid or somet would be apperciated to cover the disk and the postage

I wouldn't mind that please :)
Can we sort it out on MSN / email ?

Did you save to disk? It might be worth PM'ing the guy who was offering a DVD for £1...

Maybe it is getting interupted, and stops. Try the FTP Jon has.

First time round I got it from the MS servers, but then couldn't get it from there anymore so got it from the FTP mirror and it did the same thing :(

bah! I left it downloading for 15 hours... Come back this morning and extract the folder... A 1kb readme folder appears. JOY :o

That's happened to me 3 times in a row now all 3 times using different download managers.

Q: What's taking so long for me to get my download?
A: Demand for Beta 2 has been huge - which was expected. But we are hitting ceilings on bandwidth. Right now we are serving out product keys 10x faster than we can serve the downloads. Already this is the biggest software download event in history. We are pumping out bits as fast as we can. If we pushed out bits any faster there would be a measureable impact for the Internet.

There's two points I want to give you:

1. We are pumping out bits as fast as we can. If we pushed out bits any faster there would be a measureable impact for the Internet. So, we are literally saying that if we increased our bandwidth any further there's a possibilty of taking down the Internet - people might have problems with World Cup viewing, etc. That would be bad. So, it isn't that we weren't anticipating demand - we were and are - it is that we are at the threshold of what the Internet can bear.
2. We want to encourage people who can wait to order the DVD. The DVD guarantees you RCI upgrade (as long as you activate). DVD's will take about 1 - 4 weeks to arrive depending where in the world you live. And, I want to emphasize that we aren't making money on the DVD's. We are just charging for cost of goods and shipping. Along with that - people who have PID keys may have a wait on their hands to get the download. This could be several days to even up to a week or more in some cases. That speaks to why ordering the DVD might be a good option.

Sorry but i havent read the whole of this thread, but how does this work? is this a time limited version of this operating system? or do you need a cd key or something?

It's a full BETA 2 version.
Get a CD-Key from: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/preview.mspx - scroll down to the download section.

I suppose they mean "measureable impact for the Internet" as in the ISP they're with will be slowed down quite a lot due to their super high bandwidth use?

You download it and request a serial. They give you a serial (I got two, I don't know if everybody gets two) and each serial is good for 10 installations. After a year, the installation will expire and I bet it won't boot.

It installs itself as dual-boot beside your existing Windows installation. If you have your own bootloader installed it will overwrite it.

EDIT Beaten like mad!

I got 2 cd-keys as well when I signed up at the link I gave above. :)

I managed to download it yesterday with no problems (maxing out my 10 megabit per second connection) in just about an hour. When there was high demand, all I got was an html file saying that there was high demand. Tried again later and it was fine.

Installation went almost perfectly, didn't recognise my network card off the bat which was annoying, but it found one on my driver CD, and once it knew about it, managed to update it automatically. A couple of other devices not found too, but I'm sure that support will come with time.

First impressions are that it looks fantastic. Everything is responsive (though I've found scrolling through webpages can be a bit jumpy). The new explorer layout will take some getting used to - the breadcrumb trail looks very useful and search looks much improved. Love the thumbnail previews of the things on the taskbar (especially when you can see them updating in real-time!), similarly the two task switching applications look good.

Turns out that NOD32 doesn't work with Vista yet, I tried it and it causes a couple of services to go crazy and use up 100% of CPU time which slows everything down. But Avast does work, so no real problems there. Haven't tried much else yet, other than Opera. I *have* installed the beta for Office 2007 and again, as with Vista, the UI improvements are noticeable, though will also take some getting used to.

UAC is possibly the most annoying feature in the world. It was the first thing to go, though now the security centre feels it necessary to tell me it's not happy every time I start up. But that's better than it asking me if I'm really sure I want to do *anything at all* every single time.

Great, I've downloaded this using:

Net Transport - I wake up to find no ISO on my desktop but the download completed - I did a full PC search and found nothing.

WackGet - It downloads about 2.7GB. I then check back on the ISO to see the file size and it's a few MB... I search my whole PC for the proper version... nothing.

FreshDownload on a completley different PC - downloaded the whole thing, I just saw it finish and compile the file when I got up. I check how big the file is and it's 0 bytes. I search the whole PC for the proper version / temporary files and find nothing.

So basically now I've wasted a lot of bandwidth and have no Vista.

Any ideas what could be going wrong please? Both PCs have more than enough space left and are both NTFS.

[Edit]
Oh and to make it even worse, I'm only on 576k.

Craig.

Join the club :(

First download crashed after 98%, and the ISO was corrupt (FreeDownloadManager).

2nd download from Jon's FTP was also corrupt (DAP).

3rd download stopped at 95% and started downloading again (Getright).

Don't know if i can bring myself to try again :(

NOD32's fine if IMON is disabled.

Can anyone help me here, just installed Vista Beta and I cant seem to get my Internet working, with an XP build it detects it automatically, no drivers.

setup is: PC - Router - Telephone line

You need Network Card drivers - check Device Manager or Network Center to see if the NIC is installed. Try Windows Update or your motherboard manufacturer (if onboard) or card manufacturer for drivers if it's not installed.

Alright, so I'm glad this damn download problem isn't only me.

Maybe it's some kind of ISP filesize limit? Although saying that my Dad downloaded a 3GB+ Linux ISO a few months back and that was perfect.

It can't be the PC as I have tried on both my PCs and they have done the same thing.

I really don't see what the problem is :(

Any ideas?

Oh also, Lokkers, I wouldn't try again if I was you, waste of time. Between us it's been tried on 3 different computers, 2 completley different areas and internet connection, and 6 different download managers.

Open a command prompt and run ipconfig. If it says 'Media Disconnected' and the cable's in and the drivers are installed, then it sounds like dodgy drivers.
