Vista Beta 2 Goes Public Today

WAHEY!!!!....i have sound.. :D

By ripping out my Audigy 2 and enabling my onboard AC97 5.1...

Stupid Microsoft/Creative....how the hell can THE most popular brand of Soundcards NOT work in Vista ffs, even if it is a Beta.

Poor...very poor

I suppose they mean "measureable impact for the Internet" as in the ISP they're with will be slowed down quite a lot due to their super high bandwidth use?
Na they do mean the Internet as a whole... most ISPs and backbones operate close to their maximum capacity and if Microsoft added more bandwidth to their Vista B2 download servers those backbones could be pushed over the edge and that's when all hell breaks loose.

Does anyone know of a way I can allow my XP install to boot first instead of my Vista ?

I have XP installed on one HDD and Vista installed on another HDD, XP used to boot as you would expect before Vista came on, now ive installed Vista on another HDD this new "Windows Boot Manager" comes up with options

"Previous OS"
"Microsoft Windows" <vista>

And it will always default to Vista

How can I allow it to auto boot XP/Previous OS ?

Thanks :)

The same way as in XP. Go to the 'System' control panel, click 'Advanced System Settings'. Click 'Settings' next to Startup and Recovery, and chose your OS and timeout settings.

Aye - MS use Akamai who serve right at the ISP level, so that could be lots of fun...the world's top PC company releasing 4Gb downloads

Oh also, Lokkers, I wouldn't try again if I was you, waste of time. Between us it's been tried on 3 different computers, 2 completley different areas and internet connection, and 6 different download managers. Craig.

Yeah I'm going to see if anyone at work has managed to get it. if not, i'll try again in a couple of weeks, or order the DVD

Anyone with the x64 download confirm its 8gb+?

WTF, why? How can a system be so bloated, thats 10% of my raptor gone and a 8Gb i-ram completely useless.

Mac OS X is only 2Gb at install :/

XP is only 600mb.

Can people search vista for files and see which are the biggest? And what happens if you delete them? :p

It isn't finished yet, for starters. But for your information, the vast proportion of space is taken up by C:\windows\system32\drivers (~2.4Gb in x86, much more in x64, I suspect), and another ~3Gb in C:\windows\winsxs - containing just about every MS dll.

MS have a 4.7Gb DVD they're able to fill, so they're going to give you as much as they can in terms of drivers and the like - something they couldn't do when limited to a CD. Hard disc space is cheap, and needing 15Gb is hardly a huge amount. The next step is to use Hybrid Hard Discs, no something quite so volatile as the i-Drive. Hybrids marry flash memory and existing disc technology to allow much greater speeds.

nice

Got it installed stuck it on an old HD, took about 40 minutes. Like the look of it so far, runs sweet on my system, updated all the drivers fine - no problems as yet but haven't run any games. Really do like the tab options on IE7.

Going to have a look now for an Antivirus and then give office 07 Beta a try. Ill burn up EQ2, CSS and Fear and see how they run later.
