Vista Beta 2 Goes Public Today

Runs pretty well on my Athlon 64 laptop. Only got 512Meg of Ram and a Geforce 4 based GPU, but it seems to handle it ok. Obviously dont have the fancy GUI effects, but I can live with that.

Thing I'm having trouble getting my head around is sharing media with my Xbox 360. From what I can see you dont use Media Connect anymore, but instead share the media via WMP's 'library'. Seems very confusing to me and not very intuitive.

Has anyone else experienced unresponsive buttons? It seems to happen on dialog boxes and web pages. It just seems like it won't respond to mouse clicks every now and then. It does respond to the keyboard though.

Could someone try this please, open a internet explorer window then open and play freecell found in the games of vista.
Each time I play it the pc BSOD's yesterday it did it and I thought I had done something wrong. Today I reinstalled it with nothing else and the same again yesterday I had no drivres installed today I have installed the ATI and N vidia drivers and it's done the same again.

It could be something with my PC or even a bad download of Vista but at the moment it's not going too well for me.

Would like to try it properly but I do play freecell quite a lot in between working, so no freecell means no vista

I'm sure the developers at Microsoft are losing sleep over that cockup!

Totally :D
It would interest me to know if anyone had has BSOD's doing anything and if not there must be something wrong with my set up.

Glad you included the :D 'cos I thought you were been VERY serious!

In all honesty though, and this applies to everyone, it's the 'silly' things like this that Microsoft need to know.

Imagine if you will that they release Vista in 2007 and there's a flaw like Freecell can't be loaded whilst IE is running, that someone with an AMD 3700+ and 2Gb RAM plus a 7800 running in SLI has a slower machine that someone with half that spec. That Steam bombs out if left unattended, or BSOD's (which are going to be red) are occurant if booting from hibernate, etc, etc.

It's Beta software, Microsoft need to know, no matter how small or trivial, they are gonna appreciate it, and when Vista is released, if these small 'bugs' are still apparent, then the only people to blame are those who have criticised the beta and done sweet-f.a. about it but laugh, mock, moan and jibe.

But forget freecell, Mahjongg is the best game on Vista! :D

just tried it on my raid array.

it destoryed my xp partition, installed itself onto my media drive and destroyed everything there too.
Now the comp bsods on windows install with any of the same drives.

Going to slow format all 5 drives (4 in raid 1 in storage) and hope that the drives havnt got some invisable file from breaking everything.

Its times like this i say thank ****ing god for backups!!!!!!

No more vista for me, i do not want that happening again, the only files i have lost are some steam updates (last backed up steam 2 months ago) and 2 days worth of website work, so not THAT bad.

Having trouble with the 64 bit version. All works fine apart from when I install the 64 bit nVidia GFX drivers. It just hangs with a flashing curser 1/3rd of the way down the screen with loads of HD activity, but nothing happens. Any idea guys?

32 bit works fine by the way ;)

Hi there is a tool that sends off a report to Microsoft when you get problems which should help them fix the little bugs, I would imagine there will be lots of little problems, there must be 1000's and 1000's of different hardware and software combinations and I think it's good that we can have these Beta's and be a part of it no matter how small, so if you or anyone does have a little problem forward it to Microsoft as it will make it better for us all in the end.

I've tried that driver on x64 verision but it doesn't install correctly at all on the beta 2 build. The XP x64 driver installs but doesn't give any sound. Checking on creative's forums, it appears a lot of people are experiencing the same problems and crying out to Creative to sort their drivers out but it seems to be falling on deaf ears...

I'm doing great with Vista so far, I am having no real problems at all. I have two questions though, if any of you guy can shed some light for me: -

a.) I disabled user account control because I got tired of being asked if Windows was allowed to sneeze every five seconds and not even letting me create shortcuts in any directories on my main disk drive, but now the security centre is constantly asking me to sort it out and planting that little shield icon in my system tray. Any way to stop this? I am currently just "hiding" the icon, but I don't really like to use that feature.

b.) Is there any way I can send a bug report to Microsoft without using the automated error reporting system? I am having a couple of problems in regards to desktop wallpapers still showing in the taskbar even after they've been changed, among other things.
