Vista Beta 2 Goes Public Today

Well I finally managed to get it working. I have 4 Sata drives installed as 2 x RAID 0 drives, the idea being to leave XP on drive 1 and install Vista on Drive 2. The problem for me was that I had all 4 Drives on my Sil3114 RAID controller and it just didn't like it at all. Eventually I moved all drives to the Nvidia RAID controller and after a bit of fiddling with drivers it worked.

I must say I'm fairly impressed so far, I certainly like the user interface, especially the 'windows key + tab' for switching applications.

If only I could get my Audigy 2 to work I might even try a few games out.

What did you do to get in working on the Nvidia RAID controller?

Meh :\

Well I had x64 Vista all lovely and nice except for sound. Tried to install the vista creative drivers which borked and now I can't seem to get my usb mouse or keyboard to work except in safe mode... grr

downloading x86 now >> :(

Hmm all these people with problems with sound on 64 bit with creative, starting to wonder if i am using x64 or x86...
the file name i used is vista_5384.4.060518-1455_winmain_beta2_x64fre_client-LB2CxFRE_EN_DVD.iso

Anyway of telling from inside Vista? Ill check after ive done a mission in Eve.

That's the x64 version, it's in the filename. :p

i don't suppose there is much you can do. it likes my hardware but doesn't like yours. :p

i assume it all works for you in xp?

Yup indeed it does. Im pretty sure everything is ok or it would have crapped itself and shutdown by now. Hmmm....im gonna try the bios, for cpu temp.

Well ever since i installed vista (on a separate harddrive) i can't get the internet to work in XP. It tells me that my ethernet cable isn't plugged in. It quite cleary is! Internet is working fine in Vista but XP is a no go. Its annoying because i spent ages building that computer and getting everything just right.

I had the same problem, I had to download my NIC drivers and whack them onnto the Vista installation. :)

Has anyone got a solution to the situation I'm in? I have 3 operating systems, 2 that i'm testing with evaluations, vista and 2003. XP is my main OS.

This morning I was sitting in vista via remote desktop and needed to do something in XP, so i went to startup and recovery, selected earlier versions of windows as my main OS and rebooted. XP came up, I did what I wanted and then tried to boot back into vista.

No luck, there is no entry in startup and recovery for vista and i'm aware vista does the boot selection differently.

I'm not sure how to get back into vista, via remote desktop or even if i were sat in front of it  :p

Mine doesn't come up with a boot menu either, it boots straight in to XP. However, if I put the vista DVD in the drive and leave it (don't press a key to boot from dvd) the PC will auto boot in to Vista.

Does anyone know how to change the default location for the desktop slideshow gadget? I have a photo album on another drive and there's no way I'm copying all the pictures in to the 'My Pictures' folder!
