Vista Beta 2 Goes Public Today

Posted and talked about a few pages back - they're old (Nov 05), and are very hit and miss. They're worth a go, but not actually a lot of use in many cases.

My bad sorry.
They seem to have brought sound to my machine so just assumed they were what was needed!

finally got it working! :D

vista had a lot of trouble working with my alcatel speed touch 330 drivers, got constant BSOD's. good job id got a spare PCI modem :D

i really like it so far, the interface is a lot better than XP imo. its running very well too.

Good good! As I said, they're definitely worth a go. But it seems a lot of people are having no joy with them. Creative really need to start to get their act together soon.

Bah, those tweaks for the security center didn't work. :( It says "the security center service is turned off" and leaves the shield icon in the system tray. Did I do something wrong?

Sorted it, I am a complete moron and forgot to rename the .dll and .cpl files to .bak so that the system wouldn't read them. :) It's sorted now, all fine and dandy with no useless icons cluttering the place up. :D

Thanks again mate. :)

Is the x64 version worth downloading ahead of the 32bit version then, or is it a bit iffy like xp64?

If you have a Creative soundcard then install the 32bit version.

I tried the X64 version but could not get my creative soundcard to work so I downloaded the 32bit today.

I then got my Creative soundcard working using the latest XP drivers. The Vista beta drivers just didn't work at all.

The 32bit version also seems a lot quicker the 64bit.

Don't forget most of Vista will have been compiled in Debug mode so it will make file sizes bigger and will also make things run a little slower as well.

Sorted out my Asus laptop problem. My HD had an additional partition that wasn't visible to the Vista Installation routine; an Asus one, it had just less than a GB free and Vista must have been trying to install there which was why I was getting the 'inflating files' error. I deleted the partition with my Windows XP install manager and everything installed fine.

However, even though I love what I see I'm back on XP tonight.

1) I'm a semi-professional genealogist and my program Legacy just plain doesn't work under Vista. I've contacted it's developer to see what can be done.
2) Media Connect. I have a 360 and the full media connect functionality is region locked for this beta (to 1) so I went back to standard media share functionality and Vista failed every time I tried to share my library (in media player).
3) Sound problems with my laptops Realtek device.

Shame really but there you are.

But as for a beta I was genuinely impressed with how robust and polished it felt and I look forward to RC1.

Damn, 800? Tried a restart? What did vista rate your pc as? Here's mine...

Hope its ok to post this fairly small image :) Lemme know if its not.

Hi Chaps :)

Maybe i have missed this is such a long thread but as far as i'm aware there will be 5 different flavours of Vista for the public to buy. ( Read it on the MS Vista website )

Does anyone know which version of the 5 this Beta is ?

Thx ;)

I have the 64bit Vista, and after a lot of hassle of trying to get my sound card working, trying various drivers i decided to try the XP drivers and it worked :/ wtf ?
Not complaining though, even got the creative control panel thingy going.
