How do I get a serial number, I have downloaded the 64bit version to have a play with but it is asking me for a number?
This has been answered about a dozen times already in this thread...

And what would I search for in order to find the exact answer to my question?

It doesn't matter now as I have my answer and in a lot quicker time than it takes to answer stupid comments. :D

Anyway interupting this argument here, lol. I daont know what people are talking about saying it really needs 2 gig of ram etc and this and that spec. I using it on my laptop barton 2500+ / radeon 9700 mobile 64mb / 512mb pc 2700 ram/ 60 gig hard drive etc.. and it flys along. Just got a few driver problems though to sort out.

And I might get the 64 bit version for my desktop, to dual boot.. is this easy to do? I want my xp home in tact on my c: drive and i was thinking of installing vista 64 on my maxtor 250gig sata drive.

512mb is the minimum for Vista. :)

Yes you can install Vista on another HDD, I have, works a charm. :)

Wow this is weird been using vista for a few hours not one crash and it actually seems to be faster than xp for program switching also got it dual booting fine with windows xp wonder if i could use it as a main operating system.

So far so good with Vista, very stable just a little buggy (as expected). Has anybody with an X-FI and the Beta Vista Creative drivers managed to solve the 2 speaker only issue with a quad set up?
How much ram is it using up for you folks. I look in task manager and it is using 850mb.

As I said earlier, that's a limitation of the Creative Drivers. There is no solution unless you can persuade them to write new drivers. I believe it even says it's Stereo only on their site.

I installed Vista and had it uninstalled within 20 minutes of use. It seemed increadible slow on my machine with an AMD64 3500+ and 2GB ram. Im also not convinced its any better than XP, the only difference I see is loads of flashy toolbars. My computer seemed non-existant and there was no real way to navigate except going through run or my documents.

What are others opinions on vista? I cant see myself buying it on release.

Well i'm a complete convert, i love it, just so refreshing, the start menu is slightly different but i soon got the hang of it.

I love the way when you hover over a minimised window you get a little picture of it and in the case of media center, a little tv screen.

All runs smooth with me, 4200 and 2gig

I install most software in xp sp2 compatibility

even got hda digital and 2 dvb-t cards working

Whereas it feels faster than XP on a AMD Athlon XP 2400+ and 512Mb RAM. It's all beta driver swings and roundabouts really - the final will be a different story.

There's so much stuff that's been improved over XP - I've had it running for three weeks so far, and I'm still discovering new things.

And 'My Computer' is still there - now called 'Computer'. It's in (or at least can be added to) the start menu, and can be added to the desktop. Both in the same way as XP.
