Vista Beta 2 Goes Public Today

Duno if this has been mentioned already,

The Beta 2 is only a 14 day trial, and you cant activate it online
It hasn't been mentioned because it's incorrect.

It's a 1 year trial, or a trial until June 2007 (whichever comes first. Obviously that's June 2007 now). It's very easy to activate online using your CD Key you obtained from MS, or over the phone if you can't get internet access.

i installed it yesterday (32bit version), and it comes up with a prompt you have 14 days to activate etc etc.. but when you click activate it doesnt let you using the cd key i was emailed
this is using a install from 14th June, using the microsoft downloader

I also have the same issue as everyone here, my 70Gb raptor seems to be working all the time doing.. er something :P

I think its something to do with the the new vista indexer doing its job. Apparently if you leave your pc on for a few hours it will finish and settle down!

A couple of suggestions then:

1. Check you actually have internet access (my wireless occasionally doesn't work when i boot up for unknown reasons!)
2. If it still doesn't work, goto the ms website for another key (link in the OP). You're allowed 2 different keys for this beta, so you should get a different one. Goto system properties, click 'change product key' and type the new one.
3. If it still won't activate using the second key, try ringing ms (i believe there's an option for phone activation). Should just be a machine dishing out activation keys if you give it the number it requires from your screen.

Havnt the torrent files been withdrawn by MS request though?
Just checked the site, seems so. Why must MS ruin everything for everyone? :(

These guys only started VistaTorrent because MS are so ******* useless at distributing their own damn software.

Whats going on with you lot? I used the download manager and it downloaded direct from microsoft at a steady 230kbps in 5 hours.

Whats wrong with your connections?

Yeah i got it on day of beta release from MS and i got 260kb/s all the way,
I used the x64 edition but had problems with my soundblaster live, think i will wait for more support before i install it again, im back on good old xp64 now

Downloaded fine for me, but I am seeing a hell of a lot of people having trouble even with the download manager. VistaTorrent was a nice alternative for those people, and in-fact doing Microsoft a favour, but Microsoft are just ***** I guess.

can i ask a quickie question? Can I mount this to an external HDD and then still have the option to dual boot!?

If so, how would I go about doing it!?

I have Daemon Tools...

Thanks

I don't really know what you mean by mount to an external drive. To dual boot you have to use a bootloader. If you do not install outright, you will have to come to the party with your own bootloader like Grub. I imagine you do not intend on messing with that.
