Vista keeps on crashing...

He has a corsair 520w psu, which is more than adaquate for his setup btw.
I know the Corsair 520W should have enough power, what i meant was it may not be producing the power the system needs for the RAM,GFX, CPU and mobo due to a PSU fault, ie: Low voltage on the 12v rails, which can cause HDD corruption.

I thought u said u did have a old hard drive, a ide one you were gona try.
I also thought he was going to try a different HDD, infact, i thought he already had tried a different HDD

@yantorsen,

I'm shure you'll get it sorted sooner or later with the help of the kind poeple in this thread, just keep pluging away, you'll get there in the end.

About the psu, ah ok, np mate and i guess it could be a issue but very unlikly as them psu's are made to last as they are made with the best components they can build psu's with apparently.

I have been reading the manual for this mobo and i have found the two options below that i have never seen before in the "Power Management Setup" menu.

HPET Support (Note)
Enables or disables High Precision Event Timer (HPET) for Windows® Vista® operating system.
(Default: Enabled)

HPET Mode (Note)
Allows you to select the HPET mode for your Windows® Vista® operating system. Select 32-bit
mode when you install 32-bit Windows® Vista® ; select 64-bit mode when you install 64-bit
Windows® Vista®. (Default: 32-bit mode)

Note the 32bit & 64bit options.

Is it possible that these options could be causing the problem?

Yanto, I know you have tried removing one stick and run memtest, but try and remove one stick and install some games then and see if you get the same errors, as I had a problem very similar to this, and I felt like crying.

thanks for all the replies guys,

through out today I have been trying out all the stuff you have said, and whenever I installed windows, it installs succesfully. But then when I reboot my PC for whatever reason It doesn't load into windows, it just stays as a black screen, it does it when trying to enter safe mode too, and when starting from last known good configuration.

I've installed Vista several times today with various ram settings, ram sticks taken out, changed the bios from 64-bit to 32-bit mode, but I'm still getting the same problem I described above.

I also thought he was going to try a different HDD, infact, i thought he already had tried a different HDD

well I did say I was going to, but i didn't realise that the only spare one I have is broke, it contracted some virus on it from my old pc, and damaged the hdd.

My old PC (one that works) does have a 500GB and a 80GB hdd, so I was going to try and stuff everything on the 80gb one onto the 500gb so I could use the 80gb one for my new pc, but the 500gb, one has only 15gb spare space, and the 80gb one is full, I've tryed getting rid of things but there's still not enough room.

Did you try testdisc or whatever it was that supose to fix the mft.

Also can u photo ** bios settings for cpu, tho be ace if u can photo all of the bios screens so we can check each setting ourselves see whats up.

Also disconect ** odd then boot into windows, see if u get probs with anything just to rule out the drive paths issue. No usb devices either plz while testing.

Hmm interesting.

From the 8800 topic u posted.

This indicates a MFT issue. The master file table. If this is what the problem is all the time which exactly describes all the probs ** having. Then we need to find out whats corrupting it and how to fix it somehow.

** not using norton auto-protect are you as i read turning it off helped. (just from a post i found using google).

Most places i read says run chkdisk and it might fix it, then again might not.

Source site for info below. http://www.ntfs.com/quest14.htm

Hmm so lets think..

1. It could be a drive letter conflict or paths conflict (happened to bro once two c: drives it had similar problems as ** describing now i think about it.

2. It could be the hdd

3. Just the mb in some way.

4. Screw it wheres the sledge hammer. :p

Hmm could give this a read

http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/Advanced_NTFS_Boot_and_MFT_Repair

well my hdd is the C drive and my dvd drive is the D drive, well that's what it defaults to on windows anyway.

I'm leaning towards faulty hardware, I can't seem to get through to scan, there always engaged and arn't replying to emails.

the drive names is not the main thing it was the paths so needed to do admin tools and drive managment to see them.

u emailed gigabyte btw asked for help from them, i would. tell em ** hardware if its all compatable and recommended bios settings off em, etc.

I certainly can photo all the bios screens,

and I did run checkdisk, didnt help though.

and I don't have any usb devices except my mouse is a USB mouse, i can cope with just a keyboard though.

i'll have a go disconnecting the odd when booting into windows.

Oh also if u always used hdd in orange sata ports er try purple if u want lol diff sata controller i think.

Dont forget the dxdiag report im still waitin for. God i sound like a rite techy dont i lol.

yeah that's a good idea I'll email gigabyte,

I'll have to do drive management once I get a decent install of windows.

Could you only use one stick of RAM and remove all other hardware from your system that is not needed for testing, eg: PCI cards, USB, etc, now connect your HDD to SATA0 orange and the ODD to SATA2 orange, could you then check and change all the bios settings below, save and exit the bios when done and try installing Windows one more time.

If you know where the RAM timings are could you also set the RAM timing to 4-4-4-12

At least it's worth a try.

right sorry I been really busy these last few days.

but I've tryed all of the above, but I can't seem to get it to boot into windows after it's been installed, and I've tryed it loads of times, it won't even boot in safe mode.

I havn't got around to taking pics of everything in the bios yet, but I will do asap.

After me emailing the errors I was getting to scan, they have decided to RMA, the motherobard, ram, hard drive, and cpu.

Yantorsen.
