Vista RC2 Released

Now since 5728, which I removed and went back to RC1 for, and now still on RC2 there are problems with copying files over my network. It will just come up with the calculating time box and never do anything. Locks up explorer and I have to restart as it also kills the network card meaning MSN logs out and all internet is dead.

No problems copying files here, if you use a router, vista is having problems with some models.

I had read about router problems, but it's my pc > hub > server and my router goes into the hub as a separate part. So I didn't think it would affect transfer from the two pc's.

Anyway, I've disabled TCP Checksum Offload (IPv4) for the network card and I can again transfer files.

Nice 1 chaps!

Hi thanks for the link. . .

I now have two ISO's on my hard disk:

vista_5744.16384.061003-1945_x64fre_client-lrmcxfre_en_dvd.iso (3.695GB)

vista_5744.16384.061003-1945_x86fre_client-lrmcfre_en_dvd.iso (2.613GB)

that's the 32-bit and 64-bit versions, now all I need is some *keys* to get going. I did want to try the 64-bit version but I was reading that the driver support is severely lacking so I guess I should try and install the 32-bit version.

How do I get a CD-Key for 32-Bit Vista?

thanks in advance :) (I can be mailed in trust!)

If you have RC2 installed and Aero is not working you need to do the following:

Set these to registry values to the following. Only one needed to be changed for me.
Code:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\Composition = "1"

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\CompositionPolicy = "2"
You will need to reboot for this to take effect.

Vista RC2 Shutdown & restart issues

In common with others here - I cannot shutdown or restart my system after upgrading to RC2.

My screen turns off but the system still hums away on and on. I have to keep the power buttoin pressed to shut down & restart properly. This is not sleep mode as I have chosen shutdown or restart.

Anyone solved this yet ?.

I can start but each shutdown "bluescreens" and each startup says "recovered from error". Apart from that (!) it seems OK?

For anyone with an SC101, I called NETGEAR today, they told me they had no beta drivers to test with VISTA.

The only response was I am sure we will release some drivers when VISTA is officially released.

I have to say I am really disapointed, as in the past years that I have used NETGEAR products I have always had really good support, and are always happy to share test drivers etc.

If anyone gets a work around for VISTA, please let me know.

Thanks
Dale

if you're using 32bit, trying xp drivers is usually worth a go. i'm using xp drivers for an antiquated wireless card that i have (asus onboard) and i'm also using xp drivers for my audigy2. the creative betas just crash everytime i open the sound properties.

The only thing stopping me giving it a bash on my main PC is my wireless, I have onboard ASUS P5B Deluxe WiFI or a ASUS 138g v2 that i need drivers for.

well I installed it, wish i never bothered to be honest. just cant get on with it at all. Main bug bears seem to be just the overall look, the fact that I hav eto reboot my router every time I log on and getting very weird graphical glitchs when in the media centre.

Oh well, back to XP for me
