*** VISTA SP1 (now with proper Microsoft.com download links!!!) ***

Remove anything Zone alarm before running the SP1 update, there should soon be a ZA update, It really caused problems for me during the update.

I also needed to reactivate windows.....and the automatic online process said the key was already in use !, I used the Automated phone method which fortunatly worked.

Well, I've just survived the last 4 hours reovering from a BSOD at bootup after a failed install of SP1. Thought I'd be facing another fresh install again, but managed to roll back...only after removing 2GB of RAM and switching off a lot of options in the bios..

Finally got SP1 installed. I'll cross my fingers and put the memory back in tomorrow .
Bedtime first...

Yay downloading now, hopefully it fixes my random crashing 0x9F (if it gets to BSOD, and doesnt just hang) thats really winding me up, considering its a new pc with hardly sod all installed since it arrived last month, found very little info on MS knowledge base to try and pinpoint whats been going on. Hopefully this'll do the trick.

I installed it successfully after using the MS download links. Downloading the 700MB package was actually a wiser move than doing it from WU because if I do a new install I won't have to download it again.

Anyway, it's all working now. Though I'm buggered if I can tell the difference.

How do i uninstall all the random language packs i installed for no reason so I can install Sp1?

Well, downloaded it, no noticeable changes, apart from my CS:Source isn't hanging every 20 minutes. Well done Microsoft, overall a nice upgrade. Looking forward to what SP2 will bring.

as anybody got slow bootup after installing sp1? after installing sp1 on a clean windows installation i notice the bootup time takes longer. also when i first turn my system in the morning it doesn't boot fully in to windows, it gets a blue screen then restarts then it goes in to windows.. i never had this problem with sp1 rc2....

I get this error

Windows Update error 80070002

If you receive Windows Update error 80070002 while checking for updates, you need to remove the temporary update files that Windows uses to identify updates for your computer. To remove the temporary files, stop the Windows Update service, delete the temporary update files, restart the Windows Update service, and then try to check for Windows updates again.

Unistalled the temp items as intructed but still the same error using either WU or the stand alone package. looks like a clean install is in order but can wait untill I get some new hard drives.

Ok, updated !!
No problems as of yet, but I seem to be using more memory.
Almost 1.5gb compared to just under 1gb before SP1.

Is this a new feature ?
If so... COOL !!!
That's what I bought the 4gb of ram for :D

It takes forever to get SP1 installed, it must have taken at lest 30min even though i had like most of the updates already in.

I used sp1 64bit in one file 700+mb from provided links. C2D, 4gb memory and raptor didnt help much. Must take even longer on some slow laptops.
