VM 20 > 30 meg upgrade

The 30MB package is a new 12 month contract yes. The woman on the phone said this multiple times (she also said "OK" a lot, lol).

Weird, the woman was quite sure it was a new 12 month contract and that you could change tariff at any time but if you did cancel then you might have to pay a disconnection charge (standard guff).

The superhub does NOT support UPnP...I hope you can turn the superhub into just a modem, and have your own wireless / router running.

so you are telling me the option to enable UPnP in the advanced settings is just there for fun...

UPnP works fine for me via my Superhub, which is just a Netgear anyway.

Yeah it has uPNP and it works fine.

Also when you all get your SuperHubs, if you find for some reason your wired PC doesn't have any internet access but obtains details through DCHP etc and all wireless devices work fine then look for an option in Services called IP Flood Detection, uncheck it. It completely knocked out access from my PC, took me hours to find this! Bloody thing.

Im tempted to order BB and a line from them but hang back on TV.

Also can anyone confirm the 3meg up upgrade for NEwcastle, NE16 please?
I can't view PDF on this shoddy tethered connection :(

Apologies for contracty Q..

If I phone at a later date and add the TV (if the sky thing doesnt happen) would they start a new contract or would I have a 2nd contract for TV only? OR would they allow me to up and down apckages without penalty within my contract as long as I don't go under my original package?

I don't think that I'll bother upgrading to 30mb for £30 as my current 20mb down and 2mb up is good enough for what I need. My connection is stable so I don't want to risk any changes.

If you keep it for 20 months you'll break even compared to staying on 20Mb, as I gather it's £1.50 per month cheaper. Not to mention you'll have a signficantly faster download and upload speed for that period and a neat one-box solution.

Sort of...only if you have to have the VM box anyway, it's neater to only have that rather than a separate router also surely?

I'm hoping the box will play nicely with my WRT54GL.

There's no confirmation on how the WAN<>LAN throughput handles heavy loads, with the speeds of the connection and then the Gigabit ports paired to the box as well as Wireless-N I can't imagine a bundled router handling a heavy usage household and being completely stable. I went through several Gigabit wireless routers before finding "the one" (WNDR3700) which was always stable all the time based on the usage it has to handle in my household, for example.

I also can't imagine VM testing it for heavy usage either, only basic, the fact that they have not put in an option to use it as a modem only amplifies this thought.

Some transfer load tests would be nice!

Do I need this? I have no clue about anything any of you are typing! lol
I currently have 20 mb and have a D link router conected to virgins Scientific Atlanta thing! In the router I have two ethernet cables going to two pcs. We also have two laptops using this router wirelessly! They already give me a discount each month of £10 and quite a few other so I don't know if I'll get any more money back!
Currently I get :

Phone line with weekend calls
20mb broadband
tv size xl
2nd tv box

All for £47.14 , Is that good?

Our bill is nearasdammit the same amount each month, slightly less, and we have

- 20Mb internet (soon to be 30)
- TV size M with V+ (which is great)
- Phone line with anytime national calls

So I'd say your deal is reasonable. As long as you're not about to move house or something I can see no reason not to sign up for 30Mb, unless you absolutely must have a separate router and this hub turns out to be useless with a router.

cheers, both of our tv boxes are V+ although I paid £99 for the 2nd one to get it 'connected'!
I wonder if they'd still give mee all the discounts if I got the 30 mb?

Currently on 10MB L package (Old Blue modem), i saw the upgrade info yesterday so i gave Virgin a call. They stated in order for me to upgrade to 30MB it would be an extra £3.50 per month (no issues with this) Additionally there would be a £30 connection fee and a £40 cost for an engineer to visit. I asked why they explained an engineer would need to visit to ensure the install is done correctly.

Upgraded mine last night. Paid the £30 as i needed a new router so doesnt seem to bad to me.

Its arriving tomorrow, oh and my bill is £3.50 cheaper every month:D
