VM 20 > 30 meg upgrade

DDNS is working fine here, I am using my own router of course so I guess you could do that unless you've gotten rid of your old router?

Yeah I've got a WRT54G with DD-WRT on there, it's been fine tuned over the past 4-5 years with settings etc but it's starting to struggle with the fast internet, I think 30Mbit maybe on or past its limit...

Annoyingly I only just got a gigabit hub for my NAS, if I waited a few weeks I wouldnt had needed it

Ah fair enough!

i went from 10MB L to 30MB XL. Hub will be delievered on Tuesday. Luckily the rollout for faster upload has already been done in my area so i should be 30mb down/3mb up down as of tuesday.

I want to upgrade too, signed up to VM back in November. Currently paying £20 a month for I am not too sure how long more as the welcome discount. I think it then goes to £30 a month, so if I got the upgrade from 20mb to 30mb for the one off £30 fee then will my monthly bill be less ?? it seems like everyone has a lower monthly tariff.

Just checked the VM site and it says the 30mb service is £28.50. So I really should get the upgrade rather than continue to pay £30 (when it kicks in at £30 a month) unless I just stay on 20mb and argue that I shouldn't be paying more money for less speed.

I also wish my upload would be a lot faster :(

just ordered my upgrade.
Currently on 20 meg, upgraded upload, but my Linksys WRT54G (standard) is showing its age, so hopefully the superHub will be a big improvement, looking to run lots of stuff through my PS3 (main TV) on the network, which the Linksys was struggling with.

I was funnily enough about to purchase a Netgear WNDR 3700 which I guess I no longer need to do?

Depends on what you class as an improvement, the superhub isnt that 'super'.

My Wrt54g with tomato far exceeds the superhub with features.
The so called superhub is just a standard hub really. Lots of complaints about it on various forums. Wont do WOL (Wake on Lan), Nat is having lots of issues.

They are working on a firmware update which will enable you to disable the hub side of the things and allow you to plug in your own router :) but this is going to be sometime towards the end of the year :( until then im sticking with my 20mb and trusty wrt54g

I think the ideal solution at the moment is to do the diy hack mentioned earlier (to add your router to the hub's DHCP reservation via a custom IP (192.168.0.10) then add that to the hub's DMZ and finally disable all features of the hub) and use your router as the switch/router and hub as the modem only.

Then it will be back like the old days, just with a faster connection :D

I wish the hub supported horizontal orientation though, looks odd stood upright!

It does get quite warm so I don't really want to tuck it away inside the cabinet :/

First of all, what wrong with superhub ? I saw many peoples are complaints. But, my superhub is no issues at all, no problem with wireless as I get full whack speed of 31Meg download and 3.14Meg upload on laptop, my smartphone mobile wi-fi, and my pc wireless without any ethernet cable. The ping also very good at the lower range 13ms to 15ms.

Why you need to wait for new firmware and put a router onto the superhub ?

That's because the hub was designed for standard use and at present didn't aim for the more advanced features of a full on router (people have mentioned them above) - You'll be perfectly fine as this is all that you need but others need more.
