VM 20 > 30 meg upgrade

Getting more and more tempted, just checked the STM info, tbh it seems fair, I do a fair whack of downloading and uploading but I dont mind setting it til after midnight tbh.

Think the only time it would be of an inconvenience is say theres summit on steam I want pay and download there and then, thats about it tbh.

Hows everyones superhubs treating them?

Doesn't have to be after midnight either, just after 9PM or before 10AM :p

It totally UNLIMITED at between 21:01 and 09:59 7 days a week but Virgin Media FUP is no more than 300GB a month during traffic management time slots or otherwise will get a letter from virgin media to tell you to cut down your downloads with 3 strike warning. These doesn't affect at between 21:01 and 09:59 7 days a week as it totally unlimited with non-FUP.

Yeah downloading 300GB during those managed times is pretty hefty going really.

My non managed time download usage is usually between 500GB and 1TB.

Just got off the phone with an english sounding bloke, apparently the discount removal small print is a mistake and those who are on a retention deal should be able to upgrade the 20mb to 30mb for the one off £30 activation charge from the end of next week.

So if I go for this they'll still give me my £10 loyalty discount?
The problem I have and have always had with Virgin Media is they don't know what each other is doing. Like you ring someone up and they tell you one thing, then you ring again and they have no clue what you're talking about, even though the other guy said it all!
So one guy will tell me I will be paying the same and then when I'm charged more I'll ring up and they'll say theres no record of someone telling me I'll pay the same!

Well it arrived at 5PM sharpish and I set it up just now and am connected. A question regarding DNS servers below but firstly the new line, it's good :D

When on the old 20MB:

The activation went fine but the first bloke forgot to close off the work order so I re-activated at 20MB , another phone call later and the 2nd guy closed it off and the superhub rebooted and then grabbed 30MB.

My question is this, the superhub has no option to set custom primary and secondary DNS servers and since I use Google DNS just wanted to know if it's likely to add an extra step in the resolving since my router is set for Google DNS while the superhub is fixed to using Virgin Medias.

If it is an issue for resolving latency then I'll drop the router to auto so it uses the VM DNS from the superhub I guess.

I also love the mile long Cat5e cable Virgin always bundle in their boxes :p

Khaaan what courier did it arrive by? Most don't deliver on Saturday so short of it been Royal Mail or Parcel Force I expect I'll have to wait until Monday/Tuesday! :(

I'm on the 30MB tariff @ £28.50/month!

Sorry I forgot to ask about courier but I don't think anyone would know anyway since it would have been dark and the box itself came in no packaging, just the VM box with VM branding all over it so I am assuming someone from the local exchange/centre couriered it?

Another annoying issue is that I've always set my DNS server (when setting a manual IP etc) to direct to the router address e.g. 192.168.0.1, it's worked for every routed I've had before now, but the SuperHub doesnt work for this, you have to manually set an actual DNS server, so I use Googles DNS. DHCP correctly sets Virgins preset DNS mind.

Theres tools online that performance check all DNS servers and tell you the fastest one for you. It's worth running them and setting that DNS server on your PC.

I hope they add some more features in future releases, I'd love to be able to set my own DNS (plus a DNS server) and have DDNS too. I've had it for a few weeks and it's been stable.

No worries, just a waiting game now... a game I suck at! ;)

DDNS is working fine here, I am using my own router of course so I guess you could do that unless you've gotten rid of your old router?
