VX Rearended - Maybe written off

Have spoken to Europa Consultants, they'll have an Elise S with me on tuesday, to be swapped for the Exige S once that becomes available, then hopefully a further swap to a Porsche Cayman S providing that is available.

You're getting an Exige S, you lucky git!!!!

I expect a full review.

If the third party insurer challenges the costs then I reckon they've got a case - first thing will ask is 'Why did the owner of a 6 year old Vauxhall receive a brand new Porsche as a hire car, and just why do you expect us to pay for this?'

But still, provided there isn't any small print that becomes Europas problem not Munchers.

With mine I just paid £10 which was legal protection for this very event. If the other insurers contested my hire car I was totally covered.

As it happens I got a like for like car so they couldn't really argue but I wanted to pay the £10 for my own assurance (didn't fancy ending up with a £10k hire car bill)

Ardent Red 2006 Elise S with a Larini exhaust to be delivered to me tomorrow evening, though waiting back to see who will insure it as my insurers won't touch it because of the group and value.

Sorry to hear about your accident, very similar to mine that happened over two months ago and I'm still driving around in the loan Avensis! It's saved me a fortune in petrol I suppose, and when I get back in the Skyline it should feel like a rocket again! (if they ever actually repair it . .)

We're having problems with sorting insurance for the Elise or Exige at the moment, their insurance won't cover me as I'm too young and neither will my current policy. They have however sorted me out with a new Boxster for the moment just to get me moving.

Not sure I'd want to buy it back. You risk it never being quite the same again and being worth chuff all.

Depends how well you know the car. I know it sufficiently well to be able to replace all the damaged bits. If the chassis is damaged, then I'd have problems, but other than that it's just like a set of mechano, unbolt the broken bits, bolt new bits on. If I have the chance to repair it, it will be better than new it was pre-accident.

If the chassis isnt damaged then theres no reason to write it off really? Rear damage is usually harder to fix.
I had a car written off at 5mph just because the sill was dented, so offically chassis damage but it didnt alter the handling one bit

by the time, you add ,labour, paint, hire cars ect, it's usually worth them writing cars off. If you can do the work yourself, you can save loads, especially if it's bolt together stuff.

Off to my grandparents diamond wedding meal this morning, come to a roundabout of a dual carriageway sliproad, car coming from the right, I stopp as it is was a bit wet and I wasn't going to risk it. Stationary for a couple of seconds, look in my rear view mirror and i can see a Zafira I think looming down on me, not looking like he can stop on time....:o

Bang! :( Hits me at I'm guessing 25mph, plod seemed to think it was about that speed, shunts me forward.

I think it could well be a total loss, exhaust pushed back into the engine, rear clam pushed forward jamming the passenger door shut, windscreen cracked! Having full harnesses on helped me a lot I think, though I still have a headache and a slightly sore neck at the minute.

On the phone to Helphire later today to get a like for like hire car.

Exactly the same thing happened to me, some numpties eh, did you mention your neck was ahem* sore :D ;)

If it's beyond economical repair, which they usually say is 70% of the total loss value then they'll write it off as it's cheaper to do so. The car hire is going to cost them £300-400 per day in hire charges alone so a weeks delay in a part could ramp the bill up by 2 grand!

So technically your choice to pick a company thats going to give you a Porsche could end up writing your car off?

Potentially, but that could work out the best for me. The more important factor is that it encourages them to settle at a total loss value I'm happy with.

Them: We'll offer you £12k
Me: I'll think about it for a couple of days...
(Accrues £1,200 hire costs)
Them: Ok, we'll offer you £14k if you settle today

All the time they don't offer me a figure I'm happy with is costing them a LOT of money.
