S2000's have a superb owners community. The S2Ki forums are absolutely brilliant and you can learn all sorts of incredible things on there. If you sign up now and get reading within 18 months you'd have a brilliant feel for things that go wrong, common issues, and exactly what to look for.

I think I have ruled the VX220 out, it would be too small, I'm a big bloke, I would look stupid getting in and out lol.

S2000 is still on my radar, now reading about Merc SLK's. They seem to be all over autotrader and pistonheads. The SLK and the S2000 look like "adult cars", so I won't look a ***** in the works car park.

Looking at other cars, what should I consider? I don't think I can justify the running costs of a TVR Chimera or a 350Z for example.

What coupe or soft top would people recommend that won't cost me loads in running costs, cheap parts etc etc.

I would think the 350z is similarish running costs to the S2K. Apart from the fuel consumption... that only really matters if you're doing big miles per year though.

The VXT is what 220 per ton? The S2K is around 180 per ton?

To quote the famous line... "it doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile; winning is winning." :D

Well I beat it then, as I ever so slightly edged away at 3 figures.

Mine is 200hp/ton, but at higher speeds is more about power and drag than weight.

The S2K may be easier to enter/exit but don't expect to have any more cockpit room, if you're a big fella then you'll look like a clown whilst driving with your knees up past the steering wheel. I'm 6'1 and 13 stone and can just about sit comfortably in the seats of both

I'm 5'11" 18stone and cope perfectly. Roomy? No. Cosy but not squashed at all. I even have the seat forward a click or 2 to prevent the leather rubbing and making noise.

But the VX would gain several meters for every corner. A very small top speed advantage on the straight is not going to be enough to really "beat it".

I feel less squashed in the driver seat than passenger seat in mine (6'2" and 14.5stone). The drivers seat is cosy but certainly not cramped for me

There wasn't a corner involved though, I'm aware the VX may be quicker around a track, but then again depends on the drivers difference more than the cars IMO.

My VX220 Turbo was a "tiny" bit slower than my Impreza STI PPP and ive played with S2000s in the past without too much trouble

I think its time to set up a race, come on has anyone got a VX220 Turbo / S2000 that fancys a little experiment ;)

S2 vs N/A VX220, cant see the vx but author says the S2000 just beat it. Probably settles who would win in a drag unless the Turbo is not much faster.. I'm guessing it is ;)

Not the greatest of vids either :(

Whereas the VX community is full of ******* (muncher excluded as he seems a decent bloke). When I was looking for a VXT I just found that almost everyone on the forum had a chip on their shoulder and liked to argue about the most pathetic things. To be honest a lot of it sounded like Lotus envy and it was one of the things that put me off buying a VX, I didn't want to be associated with such a bunch of ******

Everyone looks stupid getting in and out of a VX/Elise, don't worry about it. I had mine for a couple of years and by the end I still couldn't get out gracefully.

I know plenty of blokes, up to 6'6" who have owned Elises so unless you're wider rather than tall then you should be fine.
