Warhammer 40k book recommendations

Currently on page 181 on Descent Of Angels so far its pretty good. Its more like a templar book than a horus heresy novel let alone a warhammer book. It really is like reading a seperate book to the HH series, i know that it will tie into the HH series as i get further on.
I noticed there was some hate about this book saying its the weakest of the HH series. I hope your right cause im enjoying it, so that leaves the rest of the series to be awesome:D

It's actually one of my favourites from the series :)

I actually came into this section of OCUk forums to see if anyone was following the HH novels... lo and behold I find you guys.

Currently reading Tales of Heresy (the one with Angron on the cover). Good read so far and a bit sad.

Favourites so far have to be Legion (Alpharius is such a cunning badass) and Mechanicum (lots revealed in this one).

Just read all 13 Gaunts Ghosts novels, love them :D Dan Abnett is a writing machine :p

As with Horus Heresy, the 40K 'style' can be a little bit tiresome at time (there's only so many ways people can be exploded, lol) but it's a really cool story. Have Eisenhorn and Ravenor now ( Borders closing down sales - $5 each new \o/ )

I agree with you here, but i find i get drawn in with all the little things.

Some of the wit and humor they sneek in there makes it all worth it :p

Finished Descent of Angels, really enjoyed it. I hope that they go back to the characters in another book later on.
Im really looking forward to reading the next book which is Legion. Its also the second book in the series Dan Abnett wrote so it should be pretty awesome:D

You won't be disappointed with Legion. Remember that's it's about those cunning bar-stewards the Alpha Legion. What's great is that Abnett demonstrates their character throughout.
I'll say no more to avoid spoilers, but I'd put this book in my favourites alongside Fulgrim and First Heretic in terms of building character to the Legions.

If you liked the decent of angels (and chars) you'll love Fallen Angels, can't wait for the third. Although that'll be after HH?

- Eisenhorn trilogy - fantastic little series, well written with good characterisation and quite well paced. Left me wanting more.

- Ravenor Trilogy - a sort of follow up to Eisenhorn, some familiar charcters and a good story, personal taste says it wasn't quite as good as Eisenhorn but still very good.

- Gaunts Ghosts - up until His Last Command (I think it was called) this was a perfect series. Great charcterisation, perfectly paced and action packed with a interesting story carried over around 7 or so books. Last 3 books for me have been at best average, it seems to me he has lost the will to write the series and it shows. I recomend the first 7 or so as essential Reading and then you will probably read the rest to see how the charcters get on.

- Horus Heresy - there has been 1 or 2 stinkers in the series (much to my annoyance them stinkers being the Dark Angels story :( ) but generally a good series with some outstanding reads, Fulgrim sticks in my mind most, and it fleshes out a strong back story for 40k. Couldn't recomend the series enough.

I would say read all the above and you won't be disapointed.

Did you really enjoy this? I wanted to find the author and axe murder him after he wrote such garbage about my favourite chspter :o

most of all I hated the preamble by one of the charcters saying "blah blah I'll tell you the truth it's not about jealousy between Lion and his buddy" then the whole book proved that it was just that :o urgh it gets me mad again thinking about it :p

Yes i did enjoy most of the book without giving spoilers the ending is a bit of a let down. And im not sure but i got quite a few books to go before they get to the dark angels again.

Second one is an improvement but still pretty poor. For me Fulgrim was fantastic, perfect book. The first 3 were really good too. As a whole the series really impressed me and still a lot to go. Really want a White Scars book :)

Halfway through Legion, so far i think its ok. Im finding it abit hard to fully understand all the deception and im not 100% on all the characters i cant seem to remember all of them. But i do like the Alpha Legion there quite different than any other chapter ive read so far.

Ordered Battle to the Abyss, kinda dreading reading it as ive hear very few positives from anyone about this book.

Battle of the abyss was ok. Not as bad as some make out but certainly not one you would be wanting to re-read in a hurry. Pity as well because I really like the Garro character.
