Warhammer Total War Confirmed

Hi guys, never played titles of warhammer, is this one any good to start out with?

Hmmm, it's a bit more accessible than previous ones for sure. There's some slightly more restrictive mechanics in places (to keep the lore of the world) but I'd think most folks would find this easier to settle into than say, Rome 2.

Started getting owned for a bit with the skaeling and varg pushing me back in the north and vampires declaring war in the east. Fortunately the vampires are easy to force into a peace treaty with them giving me much needed gold. I picked up some cheap units up north and it seems to be keeping the enemy at bay while I build up the settlements.

My forces are hugely split though and if the orcs push quickly I am stuffed.

Another minor tip - any time an AI asks for something, ask for a payment, play with it until it goes from "high" to "moderate" chance of it working. It CAN occasionally screw up (they were offering a deal they then won't accept when you offer it) but it usually works out quite in your favour.

Check who you can trade with too, get trade agreements asap as they make life much easier for expanding and army building without running out of cash.

Starting an empire campaign, will see how that plays :D

I took a little too long to get into diplomacy - it actually works well here whereas in previous total war games it has often been a waste of time. I am making a lot of money out of it both through trade and them offering me cash. I am resisting entering a war with the orcs at the moment though - I can barely hold off the north.

Great AI in this on all counts. I impressed with the vampires declaring war on me once all my forces had been sent north. Equally impressed with battlefield strategies - have never seen much more than rush in formation in past games. They do keep me busy now.

Can't wait to play the other factions.

I will buy all extra content for this tbh and bring on the inevitable expansion :)

Well my war with Chaos just strange, their 2 death stacks (totalling around 3.5k troops) wiped the floor with 2 armies totaling around 4.3k troops i put into the field, but on the plus side I killed their lords.

A third stack of mine mopped up their remnants before another death stack turned up and murdered another 2k of my troops. I feel back as they took 3 provinces and happily murdered their way south as I built 3 huge stacks, took to the field against their death stack, killed it.... that was Chaos wiped out :p They only had 3 armies and despite beating me time and again pure numbers won out quickly which surprised (and disapointed) me a little.

Took all the mountains now, finished off the Vampire counts (brilliant battle with 4k of them vs 1.1k defenders and I wiped them out to the man :D) and now at around tuen 158 it is simply a case of mopping up and grabbing the last few victory term conditions.

Oh well :p

There haven't been any bugs that would put you off buying since day one.

Agent spam is a bit unbalanced, a few minor graphic issues that have quick fixes, both are still present but not game breaking.

This is my first TW game (I'm more of a TBS than RTS) but I love the Warhammer world so I dipped, and I'm so glad I did. Absolutely loving it now that I've got a bit more of a grasp of things.

I know they've released a semi-roadmap of 'free' DLC, but has there been any mention of what new races they're going to be implementing? Has to be High/Dark Elves and very hopefully Skaven. I'd like to see the Tomb Kings too or maybe do something left field and add some Ind/Cathay/Nippon stuff or anything east of the Worlds Edge mountains.

So much they can do! :D

They've mentioned one free playable race for the end of the year, the rest are likely to come as paid dlc either as individual races or as part of a wider campain. If I was to guess on what the free race would be? I'd suspect Bretonnia given that they are already playable as a multiplayer faction.

Yeh i think it will be brettonia.

Elves will probably come as a massive dlc/expansion pack i reckon.

I loosely predict factions as follows:

DLC1: Bretonnia

Expansion 1: Dark Elves, High Elves, Wood Elves

DLC2: Ogres / Dogs of War (poss in form of mercenary hires)

Expansion 2: Lizard Men, Skaven, Khemri, Undead

Elves are unlikely to come as one huge bundle as Wood Elves are based in the old works whereas the other 2 are Ulthuran neck of the woods.

I would expect High/Dark Elves as an expansion you could have Chaos in there again but not sure who else.

I do wonder if/when the three games are out they will be playable as one huge, mega campaign or kept as 3 smaller ones (please be huge mega!!)

They will surely have to be able to have one huge map playable with all races linked by the naval aspects, it is simply unavoidable if they want to produce a complete game.

Have you gone with any mods to tone down the agent spam ?

Personally IMO (and I know most disagree with me) after my initial "holy **** this agent spam is insane" reaction I've come to not find it too bad. I've realised agent wise dwarfs have the worst support agents (army tackling wise I mean) so that made it feel worse for me and then I only found it too bad if I got in a bottleneck area, most other times they are pretty easy to avoid. Do they need toned down? Yes. Are they game breaking? IMO no.

Though I have seen some screen shots of obscene agent spam so maybe I have been lucky :p

A bigger irritation for me is that the Raze option when you tackle a city costs no action whet as you would think burning a city to the ground would take a fair while :p this results in the chaos factions being able to advance and ruin you extremely fast. If razing a city depleted your movement points for the turn like every other city related action I would be happier.

Chaos are annoying and always perfectly position their troops outside of the range of mine. Chasing them around becomes a bit of a borefest. Eventually I just took a few expeditions into the north and razed all of their settlements. My only gripe so far. Finished the empire campaign, but haven't destroyed all other factions yet.

Crushed the resistance in my dwarf game, there's a couple of dwarf territories next to Bretonnia I need to march over and take and then thee territories in the north but I game armies en route for both.

Need to decide who I'm playing through with next, probably VC as I'm not hugely interested in playing them.
