Watch Dogs - Ubisoft's Third Person Shooter

It was busted before that, i ran this on dual 780Ti (fine) and Dual Titan black (stuttered and artifacted a lot)

Since i moved to the red team its been unplayable, maybe I'm doing something wrong

Nah, it runs better for me on one card too. Seem to have slightly higher frame rate with crossfire enabled but it feels a stuttery mess.

LOL

Have they enabled the e3 graphics themselves though???

So glad I didn't buy this game and not buying any future ubi games, they simply don't deserve PC gamers money. Such a shame as the division online gameplay does look good, oh well guess I will just have to enjoy the SP of far cry 4 and division only then......

I havent updated yet but I think it is because the mod files were named patch.dat and patch.fat

It seems the latest update from Ubi uses the same file names so it overwrites them. Maybe these new updated patch files will need to be altered to include the changes the mod made.

Nothing has really been confirmed yet I dont think, its a flurry of forum posts over at guru3D.

people have already combined the mod and the latest patch, but it seems the patch is really just a pre-patch for something bigger coming later.

I don't think they intended the DOF effect to be on all the time. Without the mod this effect does still make an appearance on occasion; most often during cut scenes and other scripted sequences. I think they decided it was overkill to have it on all the time.

Ubisoft have made an official response which echos my previous comment about playability of the game with these effects.

The dev team is completely dedicated to getting the most out of each platform, so the notion that we would actively downgrade quality is contrary to everything we’ve set out to achieve. We test and optimize our games for each platform on which they’re released, striving for the best possible quality. The PC version does indeed contain some old, unused render settings that were deactivated for a variety of reasons, including possible impacts on visual fidelity, stability, performance and overall gameplay quality. Modders are usually creative and passionate players, and while we appreciate their enthusiasm, the mod in question (which uses those old settings) subjectively enhances the game’s visual fidelity in certain situations but also can have various negative impacts. Those could range from performance issues, to difficulty in reading the environment in order to appreciate the gameplay, to potentially making the game less enjoyable or even unstable.

Thanks for playing Watch Dogs and stay safe on the mean streets of Chicago.

I actually agree with Ubi in a way. I find the MOD does make the game harder to play and I find the effects a bit ott.

I imagine I'm the only one thinking this...:)

HA! What a load of ****.

Haven't had any problems with the mod and judging by all the posts in various threads about this mod, neither have 90% of the mod users... The only thing which is a bit "too much" in the game is the DOF but this is easily fixed by just turning the option of.

As for performance, quite a few are even saying that the game runs better with the worsemod and then there is another one which is specifically for fixing the stutter, I tried it and it does remove the stutter completely but you get a lot of visual glitches, texture aliasing.

Subjectively enhances the game’s visual fidelity in certain situations - lol @ subjectively... I'd like to see anyone argue that the majority of changes made by the mod don't improve it... Haven't heard anyone so far saying "do you know what, the current version of the game looks so much better than what was demoed at E3 a few years ago"

but also can have various negative impacts. Those could range from performance issues - Um... it makes the game run better for most people... :p

to difficulty in reading the environment in order to appreciate the gameplay - I'll give them that, the DoF could do with being toned right down/disabled

making the game less enjoyable or even unstable. - as above, most people are reporting that it actually makes the game run better and stops the stuttering that a lot of people are experiencing...

Rubbish attempt at saving face...

As others have noted if they were worried about performance why not just do what pretty much every other game has always done and have in the options menu:

-- Headlight shadows ( Off / Dynamic )
-- DOF ( Off / On)
etc etc etc

Or did they just think "Well it doesn't really work well on the consoles so let's just get rid of it all together"?

That statement is laughable. We have not downgraded graphics. Eh, yes you have. You showed a demo at e3 looking amazing, then released the game with half the effects missing. The game looks better with these settings enabled an apparently plays better. Terrible attempt at saving face.

Seems like they realised the next gen consoles were too weak technically, turned a load of stuff off to make the game run, then got found out.

Either that, or they had too many bugs to iron out in development to meet the deadline and turned a load of stuff off so the game would run.

Whichever way you look at it, it is another woeful attitude from a AAA developer.

The gaming industry is a total mess.

Step 1) show amazing tech demo with awesome graphics.
Step 2) get people hooked enough to pre-order
Step 3) gimp retail game to make playable on 5 year old console hardware
Step 4) profit

I'm sick of it. Happens all the time. Pre-ordering needs to stop. Developers and publishers need to be held accountable for false or misleading advertising. E3 demos etc. ARE advertising and if the retail release is clearly not up to par in terms of graphics or promised gameplay then we have a major issue....

Their statement is simply a load of nonsense. They are basically admitting, then, that they had written/implemented a bunch of effects which they couldn't/wouldn't optimise or balance to make them work across their platforms. That's just poor.

We all KNOW that the issue here is consoles. Old AND new ones. Even current-gen consoles are sub-par within 6 months of release.... remove console hardware limitations from the equation and suddenly developers can write games for PROPER hardware and can push things forward.

Sick of the whole damned game industry. When was the last truly ground-breaking, technology-pushing game released? I honestly can't remember.
