Water hammer problems.

Had this earlier this year. Changed the ball valve in the cold water tank and no more knocking.

We had this - it' truly a major annoyance. Turned out the valve in the cistern needed changing. (twice ... ) It's one of those needle valves rather than the traditional ball-****.

That's air escaping out of the pipe, hammer is when you hear (multiple) bangs in the pipes when you close a tap suddenly.. In summary its caused by pressure waves travelling up/down the pipe.

also can be caused by a faulty mains water stopvalve on the rising main.

Or a faulty pressure reducing valve if you have on on the cold inlet.

I had this problem, solved it by adding an air filled dead-end, the pressure wave compresses the air when you close the tap suddenly, stopping the hammering.

Really that classes as curing the symptoms and not the disease.
