Wayne Rooney banned for three England Euro 2012 matches

no attempt to play the ball. Just giving the player a hoof for the sake of it. 3 match ban sounds reasonable enough.

completely agree, what he did was awfull and deserved his 3 match ban.

Saying that, you can guarantee fabio will still pick him regardless

He should have told the ref he was named Arshavin, he would only have got a 2 match ban then.

Quite happy about this, we need Rooney fully focused on PL matches during the summer. England is a waste of time and space, it is a shockingly abysmal team that the likes of Rooney do not deserve to be saddled with.

A complete joke! No way does that red card deserve a 3 game ban. Total overreaction by Uefa, which isn't surprising towards England & one of our players!

Good stuff, another summer off will be good for him and United. :)

Three match ban is completely standard.

Exactly. Any sort of violent conduct over here is an automatic 3 game ban, I've got no idea why people expected anything less from UEFA.

Not sure why some people are automatically thinking he won't be in the squad now either. We should have little problem making it out of the group stage and it's not as if we've not taken injured players to tournaments before, on the basis that they'll be fit for later in the competition.

3 Match ban that's not right. It was a petulant kick, not a 2 footed horror tackle.

Crazy.

Still, difficult to feel sorry for him as it was a stupid thing to do...

YEs thats whats worse, most 2 footed horror tackles are MISTAKES and over enthusiastic, not out to injure the player. Rooney didn't do that, he was NOT fouled, in any way, and decided to get upset and kick a player. If he was attempting to tackle and screwed up thats much LESS bad. Theres poor execution of a tackle, and theres completely unsportsman like conduct, the latter is worse.

I do have to laugh at the people saying, but he's improved a lot.... like Rooney did this every game and with the three or four incidents mentioned in the last year, its been months between this and the last one.

Its like saying Barton's improved, when you mention punching Pederson, that was "ages" ago, again as if his assaults previously were on an almost game by game basis, punching a player, off the ball, for no reason, is something most players would never do in an entire career.

Either way, who cares, Rooney is usually crap for England, but shows up against, crap teams, the types Crouch can score against aswell. In big games against the tougher teams, he hasn't had a lot of good games for England. For some reason he's become the poster boy for England and people think we can't win without him, yet it was Young who finally got selected and has been involved in almost all the goals, either scoring or assisting and usually the best England player on the pitch.

We won't win the Euro's with, or without him so honestly, it makes no difference either way.

Petulant, like Beckhams Red.

There is a difference between a committed 2 footed challenge and a 2 footed horror tackle meant to injure...

You cant argue with these blind fans, last year Rooney elbowed McCarthy which he got away with, as the pic shows him going to the ref "what have I done", fact is when you have the this sort of label you will get the worst punishment possible, being a saint on the pitch i.e Linkear means you wont be judge as a repeat offender or nasty player by the refs/powers that be and even football fans.

I wouldn't mind if he got sent off for tough tackling but ever thing that comes to light its either snide dirty kick outs ala Euro 2004 and his latest card, which means he is now joint with become as being is the most red carded player for England. 5 more years and he could easily take top spot.

Does it matter? You'll get knocked out in the quarters by Germany... Holland... Spain... Italy... Greece... Ireland take your pick? :D

I didn't say intended to injure and neither did you, I think Keane meant to hurt Hangeland, I don't think Shawcross had any intention of breaking Ramsey's leg.

Kicking someone violently is not "petulant". There is a difference between shoving someone in the chest a bit and punching them in the face, I'd say Beckhams kick out was closer to a shove in the chest, Rooneys was the equivilent of a punch in the face, sure he could have done it harder, or gone for his balls but he kicked him, out of stupidity, anger, whatever.

Theres also for me a difference between, two guys getting into a 50/50 and one feeling aggreived and tripping or something or shoving, or even kicking out then, Rooney, the guy just stood in the way, there was no reason to get out of the way, he barely moved, just was strong, and Rooney acted as if the guy had badly fouled him.

we're all human and over react and do stupid things, we're all human and over react and do stupid things, but in this case there was nothing there to react to, I don't actually care that he was sent off, and won't care if someone else does. It just annoys me that people pretend he hasn't done stupid stuff before, recently and that somehow "he's getting better", because it flies in the face of what we've all seen.

He he! What I was thinking. Suppose it provides a talking point.

I like to think back to 2DTV - "He is young, he is learning..."

Strange how Capello was saying his dad's arrest was going to be no issue and that Wayne was calm and collected - as a manager would you have picked him considering his history? Not shocked by the 3 game ban but I think Capello has to take a degree of blame here for this occurring.
