Wayne Rooney: Has he lived up to the hype

Rooney has another level to go to. I think at times Ferguson holds him back from playing his natural game, and Rooney also holds himself back by taking on too much responsibility. He's an incredible player currently when on top form, if he reaches that next level he'll be unplayable, if he doesn't, well I can certainly live with his current playing ability. He's become the heartbeat of the team, even if Ronaldo does take most of the attention.

I think the shine and constant praise Ronaldo gets has affected Wayne in some way, shape or form. When he was billed as the best young player in the world, the most promising English youth since Gascoigne and all the other plauditz I think he revelled in it, now he's seen as a workhorse much in the same way Dirk Kuyt is, which is a shame because he is actually a fantastic footballer.

At that time he was, at this time I don't believe he is - mainly through injury.

Not really a fair comparison is it :)

Messi is great without doubt but as an individual player I would still have ronaldo over him even recovering from injury

I would definitely prefer to lose Ronny rather than WR however

Hopefully Wayne can put in a couple of decent scroring performances with England before returning to Utd carry on his scoring run

Dubbed "world class" by Paul Merson but Its only Belarus, if he can do the same against Brazil or Italy in the World Cup Tournament then we can all confirm he has lived up to the hype.

So someone like Thierry Henry was never world class.
