Weekend Football 15th-16th Jan

Like I said, I didn't see Crouch's challenge but by the sounds of it, he's slid in where as Rafael jumped/lunged into the tackle.

You're far less likely to injure a player when you're challenging along the ground than when you're jumping into a challenge.

I don't think he even jumped into the challenge, he was sliding along the floor but he raised his foot to get the ball (which he did).

Benoit Assou Ekotto.

Flattered to deceive in the last 15-20 minutes by playing very well, but prior to that, he was done far too often by trying to play the ball out of trouble rather than putting it out or clearing it.

I think we need to go shopping in the summer.

I think we need to replace BAE and Palacios to sure up the defensive side of things.

Is shirt pulling a foul?

Was it in the box?

Yeah?

Thought so.

They're very rarely ever given though. I agree they should just start giving every one and people will stop.

Rafael's first yellow was off the floor and a high boot, but it wasn't as dangerous as it sounds. Yellow maybe, but could have easily been given a warning, but the second one regardless is never a yellow.

Was hoping for a better game though :( wanted a big scoring game.

I'll wait until I see it again before I say for certain, but from the replays during the game, he certainly looked like he was off the ground and lunging into the tackle.

then why didn't we get 3 penalties last week?

Because not every niggle is worth giving a penalty for. Otherwise you'd be getting penalties every time there was any contact between players.

Ask the ref, not me.

And it's got nothing to do with being "worth giving a penalty for". It's either a foul or it's not. Location on the pitch matters not.

I think Rafael's second yellow was for accumulation rather than just that one (very minor) foul, I feel for the lad but I think he was lucky to be on that long

At least he only misses one game, a straight red would have been really problematical

For a striker, very weak upfront today. If VDV can't get you a goal, which he never was today as he looked very sluggish , can anyone see Crouch getting a goal?

He could and should have scored twice. Both efforts inches wide.

As for VDV, he seems to ease off when he gets booked, and he was carrying a knock. (Was to be the one subbed off for Defoe)

Yeah he should have that's my point, a decent striker would have, Crouch just aint good enough against top sides. Plus with crouch we seem to revert into long ball mode, especially from the back, with Hutton being the main culprit, Vidic just eats up long balls.

It's not so much long-ball football as we're not just hoofing it into the box and hoping for the best. We're picking out players in space. If it was Hoddle doing it, he'd be praised for picking out passes of 60 yards. :p

But from a Spurs perspective it still has to be said that the Utd defence is best in the country by a mile. If they were to freshen up their midfield they would walk this league (they probably will anyway), and have a good chance in the Champions league.

Rafeal has been great this season, he is tenacious, skillful and his defensive qualities have improved no end. Occasionaly he treads a thin line, however that was never a sending off.

Rooney was terrible. Really needs to sort himself out, his touch was dire.

Fletcher was back to his 2007 self and Carrick's creativity is minimal. With Nani off form it seemed all we were going to get was a draw.

Utd need to buy midfielders and spend big this summer. Defence is great mind.

Ahh well probably still win the league, would like us to play better football though.

Bale was invisible today.

The Police incident that was being talked about over the PA system at Anfield was because a group of 5 Everton fans got jumped by ~30 Kopites. Rumoured that 2 had been stabbed but another has come out that one lad is in hospital in a critical condition with a fractured jaw and head injury! ****ing disgrace!
