Weekend Football 15th-16th Jan

I haven't seen any replays but Rafael's first challenge looked like a red card to me and you could tell from his body language that he thought it was a red card too. Two footed, studs up equals red. Whether the players gets the ball or not is moot. A dangerous tackle is a dangerous tackle under the current rules of the game.

It wasn't two footed.

Wasn't two footed though.

But then, he also waved an imaginary card to get Palacios booked, so he should have went there.

It wasn't 2 footed tbf to him. It wasn't a straight forward red imo, but 1 that could have gone either way.

Not kept up with the thread but I thought Rafael was going to be sent off for the first challenge and was fortunate to stay on. That doesn't excuse the ridiculous decision to send him off though. BAE made a worse challenge on Rafael shortly after which was completely brushed over and never mentioned (although, bizarrely, was then included in Sky's super slo-mo half time montage).

really enjoyed it, spurs looked extremely good for big patches of the game and there is certainly the belief now that we can beat teams like united, something which has been a long time coming. we need a striker who gets into better positions though so we can start winning games like this. defence looks good too, gallas is a real asset.

i watched the brum v villa and liverpool v everton too and tottenham just give something different in terms of entertainment.

It's no surprise that our clean sheets have started coming immediately after Dawson came back to the squad.

Very true. With him back in the starting lineup, i am not worrying that we will concede every time the opposition gets the ball.

I still think he should be playing for England.

Modric on Sky.

The 2nd yellow was one of those challenges that was clearly an accident and shouldn't result in a booking however more often than not it does.

Referees need to show a bit of common sense. It's basically impossible to clip a player like that purposefully and Rafael never broke/changed his stride in order to bring BAE down. To his credit, Assou-Ekotto got straight back up and seemed as surprised as anyone that it was a second yellow.

do you think crouch practices jumps? it's embarassing the amount of times he is beaten to the ball in the air. surely redknapp must think this is pretty unacceptable.

Its no surprise that since he came back, in 6 games, you've had 3 clean sheets, and 3 games you've conceded, with the clean sheets against the massively high scoring Fulham, Newcastle, not bad, and woeful Utd?

He played 2 games start of the season, of which you conceded in two out of three.

He's decent, but he's hardly the second coming of christ ffs. Okay, you've only had clean sheets in the league when he's played, but its more about who, where and when you've played them than Dawson.

I think Vidic is very good, when he wants to be, but I've love to see video replays used for a season, ignore the first 5 games as you get a silly amount of red cards, then see how Vidic does without pulling shirts and generally fouling.

Its tough, most/all defenders do it, but almost every single time you see a "great" piece of defending from Vidic the replay more often than not shows a ridiculous shirt tug or shove off the ball.

Keep in mind though that Vidic/Ferdy/Rafael, if Crouch or VDV could finish, they could have won that game 4-0, while up the other end, Utd just didn't look like scoring. Crouch/VDV got in some great positions to score from bad defending. Striker not finishing doesn't equal great defending.

I don't even remember 4 good chances for them

We had a couple of ok chances, Rooney's early on that he pulled wide of the post and Gomes made a couple of good saves.
