Weekend Football *Spoilers* inc Carling Cup Final 28/2 - 1/3

Lets not de-rail the thread because of a few morons.

So, Anderson was awesome ;).....

He was, good to see him back to fitness...he's never going to score in open play though! And Foster was fantastic, Commanded his penalty box well. Hopefully the last we see of PIG.

I'm from Sheffield and I support Arsenal, while there's no glory at Arsenal this season feel free to call me a glory supporter, why should my birthplace (of which I had no control) dictate anything in my life which I can control through choice? It shouldn't and it doesn't. So johnnytoxic, feel free to call me your worst as I'll just remind myself that your opinion means nothing.

p.s. Have fun feeling sick over that paragraph, I feel fine!

p.p.s I thought Tottenham were unlucky yesterday up until the penalties, where Man Utd were obviously better.

AFAIK they only serious offer they made for anyone huge was Kaka, and to be honest that almost went through, it reads to me that Milan could have told them no meeting, not allowed to talk to Kaka, never gonna happen, but it all got up to the 11th hour and methinks the hoards of protesting fans outside the owner/managers buildings scared them into finally saying no more than anything else.

Milan played a bit of a game with them, they had them over, said hello, didnt negotiate with any city representatives, or allow them to speak to the player.

They did it to humiliate city.

My Geography at 4 wasn't great. Sorry.
What I can't stand is ignorant people like yourself who only come into this section with negative comments regarding who supports who. I am probably a bigger supporter of my team than most local boys are to theirs. I would put you into this equation.

to add it into the mix, I really don't like the I'm a better fan than you because I go to all the games etc

We've covered this before, due to work, money, location etc

I know you were replying to a post that was baiting but, let's not continue, I have to side slightly with Stokefan, it IS frustrating seeing Man U steamroll everything when we have to watch dross week in week out, and as I've said before we are in the top league, lower league fans have it tough imo. Yes it's pure jealously but still...

On a related note, is it as much fun when you win a cup? I mean look at Pompy winning the FA cup, they went banana's, if Toon finally win something of worth there'd be a great feel around the city.

Not baiting just wondering where the motivation comes from when you win everything:D

The above is a prime example of why you should support your local club. Gloryhunting fans turn clubs into faceless commercial machines. If you're not from the local area, you don't understand the history and culture surrounding the club.

How dare you say something complimentary about Spurs. You should be making snarky comments. :p

Neither goalie was tested that much - but it wasnt as dull as reports are suggesting either

Great to see Anderson back - and scoring another crucial penalty :)

I thought it was quite a good game to watch personally, it wasn't champagne football but it was hard-fought by both sides and there was plenty of passion which was good to see, especially given the relative standing given to the Cup these days and the moaning when teams put out weakened sides in the qualifiers etc. - I don't think either team could be accused of not wanting it enough or not taking it seriously :)

Bah ! See you are just the sort of person these people hate, bloody glory hunter. Supporting a team that isnt from where you live, its a disgrace

The sheer number of Man Utd fans that don't come from Manchester and clearly support them just because they win a lot is what is sad. I can bet my ass that if it was Plymouth winning everything every season it would be them who would be supported so. Funnily when it got to full time yesterday all the united fans were whining because they hadn't seen a goal, it is all they care about because it is the only reason why they "support" united. They weren't interested in the fact that Tottenham had put on a great game and held united off scoring. Even better is I have never met a single united "supporter" who claims to be a glory hunter, every single one has "dad always supported them so I do" or "picked a team when I was a kid and its always been united" or, "my (insert long distance relative) lives in Manchester". mmm k

There is suddenly a lot of people entering this thread who are well and truly up their own behind.

Because someone doesn't post regularly in a thread doesn't necessarily mean they don't enter it regularly ;)

I support/have supported Sheffield Wednesday since I was born, I had a season ticket between the ages of 4 - 14 (approx.), but seriously, there's only so much I could take. I could feel myself getting more educated in football over the years and felt cheated that what I was watched was being passed as 'football' so I suppose I finally had my fill and I stopped going. I have had a much more enriching time following Arsenal for the last 8 years or so. I still go to Wednesday games with my dad sometimes, but he much prefers it when we go to Arsenal games, as do I. Passion for my local team could only wear so thin, there were too many poor performances. Sometimes history and culture isn't enough for some people :)

EDIT - I don't support Arsenal for the trophies etc, Wenger could have ended up at any club and I would have followed them, e.g. I prefer West Brom to Stoke, or Barca to Real, I just like to watch teams try to play great football and trophies don't really concern me. I'm a football fan and that's why I can appreciate Spurs or Man Utd. I appreciate that some people like to hold their little grudges but to be fair I find it all a little bit immature, I have no ill-feeling towards Sheffield United like almost every other Wednesday fan does. I just don't get the rivalry thing and I find it all very petty.

Go you!
If something as petty as people getting enjoyment from supporting a certain football team annoys you that much, or gives you reason to dislike them, its you that have the sad, delusional problems mate, honestly, more important things to be bothering you in life if I'm honest.

Best way is to just wind them up and tell them to **** off to *insert ground name here*

I know more people that support Man United and Liverpool in town than people that support Wigan.

Oh I dunno, the players out there took it seriously enough, but manyoo as a club fielded a weakened side.

No arguement at all ........and yet Man Utd could have also put out a MUCH weaker side also (especially the defence and midfield)

I dont know about Spurs as they have a number of injuries and cup-tied /illegible players - but Im sure they could have put out a few more fringe players too

Result :) not the best game but it was a good full blooded game to watch. I'm in no doubt about it's importance in relation to the other trophies available but 2006 made me respect it a bit more as it's certainly better than nothing.

Lets put it this way, its one more major trophy than any other side in england is going to win this year.

I don't think he meant it as in I hate Man U fans due to them supporting Man U

More the ones who are clearly just supporting them for their league win's etc, who then go on to say how useless your team is, NOTE no Man U fan on here is like this but I encounter hundreds of them at work

Like the Arsenal fan who didn't even know that Spurs were in the relegation zone with one point!

Or the guy who chatted to my GF

Who do you support?
GF: Grimbsy
Why?
GF: Because I'm from there, my local team etc
Yes but why?
GF: Erm I was born there
Yes but they are useless, I support Arsenal (never been to London)

Why would that really honestly bother anyone apart from giving them a little giggle.
My wife now supports Man U because I do, she knows **** all about them other than the players names and which ones who play currently are any good, It gives her pleasure and entertainment, why would anybody dislike her for that?
