Weekend Football *Spoilers* inc Carling Cup Final 28/2 - 1/3

He wont win EPL for a LONG time at Liverpool (unless Arabs come in and he buys a whole new team and squad in one summer) and he wont win it anywhere else:)

Thanks Gilly - will have nightmares now about Benitez getting the Man Utd job after Fergie

(the reaction Fergie has given about Liverpool trying to buy Heinze, I think its a very safe bet Benitez will NEVER end up at OT lol)

So is that a yes you agree that he will never will the league, at any time with any team. Or a no you disagree that he will never will the league, at any time with any team??

Just got back from the game, pretty disappointing really :(. We didn't play that terribly i thought, we dominated most of the game and created a few very good chances. We just don't seem to have the rub of the green lately, through balls just getting little deflections, shots hitting the post etc. Barely saw Vela on the ball in the second half and he wasn't much cop in the first, dunno why Wenger just didnt stick him right up top with RvP instead of playing a 4-5-1. Yet again we drop points when everyone else does, i really can't see us getting in the top 4 :(.

On a positive note i took my Daughter with me for her 7th birthday and she loved it and can't wait to go again :D.

DrunkenMaster you do really need to change the channel, how can you honestly say that Eboue and Bendtner need more chances, they've had shed-loads and apart from Eboue's semi decent game against Roma he's been shocking. Bendtner came on today and completely fluffed it on 2 occasions in quick succession deep into the Fulham penalty area. Hoe you can say Fulham outplayed us today is beyond me, do you even watch the games?

well more like they did totally outplay us in the first game, they did outplay us in area's in this game, like the midfield where almost any commentator from any channel was saying Murphy had the run of the pitch, was simply under no pressure. Frankly if Johnson had form, and had anyone but Zamora(his recent goal followed 29 HOURS without a goal) then we would have conceded several today. We had more shots in the end but frankly they did outplay us, at the Emirates frankly its pretty much a fortress for us, used to be 1 loss, think its more now, very rarely would even Man U or Chelsea come to our place and get as many long passing moves going as they did. At the end they toyed with us with a 35 pass long sequence where they just passed circles around our midfield.

Its also worth pointing out that Eboue came on and didn't put a foot wrong, drove up the pitch, created chances, won tackles, defended and was very very good. Eboue and Bendtner have had tonnes of chances? As for what Bendtner fluffed, well, I can't even remember more than a couple chances he had to shoot, he was getting into the channels and creating chances for others though, not sure what there is to complain about there either.

This isn't after a season of Wenger religiously sticking by them like Ade/Denilson/Song/Diaby who have all the confidence in the world and no talent to speak of. Bendtner has for well over a year been dropped consistantly, as has Eboue, chances, you mean after another great performance midweek Eboue was yet again dropped. Bendtner, again aswell, and both performed well for players with zero confidence.

EDIT:- Fulham had more posession than us today, thats just, awful. We used to be a team that would go away anywhere and dominate possesion with ease, at home, and a team that can't score beat us out the heart of our game, somethings wrong. No we weren't terrible upfront, or right at the back, but as was shown today, Fulham by winning the central midfield battle, had more posession, were incredibly dangerous, got in behind with ease and if they had any form/talent upfront could have ended up battering us today.

They didnt outplay us at all, yes they took the **** a bit in injury time but thats about the only decent bit of play they had all game.

Eboue didnt create any chances, what are you on about? His final ball again was just not there as against Roma. Again, what chances did Bedtner create? I count zero, he could well have created 2 goals if he hadnt been so wasteful in the box as i mentioned earlier. He didnt even manage to get the ball across goal.

Yes Bendtner and Eboue have played a significant amount of minutes this season and have both started plenty of games. It's obviously not time they are lacking but ability.

Yawn.

not if everton have anything to say about it :D

Ughh... is pretty much all I can say about Liverpool today.

Babel, Lucas, Arbeloa, Dossena, El Zhar, Ngog, Kuyt + Benitez' mentality = no English title.

Unless Benitez is given £100m+ more to spend on the squad, I simply cant see him ever winning the EPL. He doesn't understand the mentality needed to win every week against English teams. He leaves it to the players to decide what it means each week, but with players like those mentioned above, it aint going to happen.

Ferguson and Mourinho, Moyes and O'Neil have their teams fully understanding the importance of the match ahead and they show it week in, week out.

We'll probably win the CL again with Rafa, but we wont win the league unless we get huge investment (Man City style.)

Must admit I am a big fan of O'Neill, and begrudgingly I am casting an envious eye at Mourinho. Not too fond of Moyes though.

Why is this huge investment necessary though. When Liverpool fans wake up and smell what he is shovling to you week in week out then you will realise what a fool he has took you for. Blindly following a manager who despite his knowledge of Europe simply cannot help to tinker where it is not necessary.

You have had money and he has persistently wasted it. So £100m, £200m where does it stop as he doesn't inspire you that he will make the quality purchases necessary.

He's a stooge, a footballing charlatan, an imposter masquerading as a top class manager. For a team wowfully lacking in striking options at the start of the season, he spaffed the majority of your transfer budget on a striker not upto the job, sells him at a loss and then doesn't have any kind of back up at all. He must wake up every single morning thanking the gods he has Gerrard. Because if it wasn't for his goal scoring exploits in the Autumn, Liverpool would surely be a UEFA cup contender at best.

Ouch...kinda harsh and somewhat assuming dont you think?

I'm not sure I would place him in the category of "top class" , at least not at this relatively young stage of his career, but I dont think I would place him in the category of a stooge, an imposter or a footballing charlatan either. He might not be in the top cream of the crop of managers but he has won La Liga twice, the Uefa cup, the champions league, an fa cup, been the premiership manager of the month on multiple occassions and been the UEFA manager of the year twice. Thats hardly the track record of someone who is a charlatan.

I dont particularly like his overcautious nature, and sometimes his substitutions and tactical decisions leave me bewildered. I am still unsure whether or not the Keane purchase was actually his choice or not. Either way he has done far more in football management than I have and with a great deal more success than many managers, I certainly couldnt in all honesty sit in my comfy leather chair and denounce him as some kind of cretin.

I actually agree with you, except the bit where you went off on one near the bottom :p. I lost faith in Benitez over a year ago (By lost faith, I mean I could see the errors in his manageability, which at the time where being conveniently brushed aside due to luck on the pitch and club problems,) however its not wise to break a team that someone has built if we're doing better than we originally where.

Under Rafa we are doing better than we have done for years, you cant escape that. However to anyone with an eye for football and a bit of common sense, its evident while watching us play this season how poor the team is doing. I'm not talking about playing fancy football, I'm talking about how the team works together and the blazing black-holes we have in certain areas Rafa doesn't see or want to address. He constantly demonstrates his bewildering lack of foresight to do with many aspects of the game and seems to enjoy creating problems for himself.

IMO if it wasn't for Gerrard and his absolute blazing desire at the heart of the team we wouldn't have won the CL or the FA cup. It was completely down to his drive and brilliance that we won both of those cups under Rafa. Dont get me wrong, its clear Benitez has an eye for playing in Europe, but to me personally and many of my friends and family and strangers I speak to daily who're all Liverpool fans, he's got way too many weaknesses that over shadow that positive.

The problem is, who do we get to replace him? I'm all for O'Neil, but he'd never come to us now. I also dont like Mourinho at all... I think he's a good manager and is proven in the PL, but as a man he's an absolute ***** and would bring the respectability of the club right down (well I suppose the yanks and rafa have already done that.) Every other manager is a risk IMO and so I'd rather keep Rafa incharge until someone becomes available instead of completely messing everything up like Chelsea are doing.

Not having a go but who do you think is a good manager then? It seems most Man U fans think Ferguson is the only decent manager in the world. :p

I fully agree on your Mourinho personality assessment, I dont like the guy as a person (at least the person he portrays in public anyway), but I would be open to Mourinho as a manager. I think a part of Liverpools problem is that there is little confidence in the team, they just dont seem to go onto the pitch believing they can win a match. One thing that Mourinho does instill, in large part due to his personality, is confidence amongst the players.

Also agree that O'Neill would be a good choice, but as you say I dont think he would come and he is also somewhat unproven at the helm of a "big" club (no offense to Villa fans)

EDIT: Oh, I should add that if we are including untested club managers, I actually wouldnt mind seeing what Slaven Bilic could do with a club side.

what about Frank Rijkaard? succesful manager. showed he could manage at the top. and hes currently a free agent.

all i know is u cant let that man sign the contract extension. hes a lunatic with his tactics and team decisions. he seems to do the opposite of common sense time and again.
