Weekend Football Thread - 15/8 to 17/8 *spoilers*

crappy performance, Fergie didn't even try to get more than one goal. Scholes, Giggs were both pretty ineffective. Good performance from Valencia, ran hard and won the ball back several times. Evra also stood out for me. Fabio was much better second half.

Not a bad performance, B'Ham were unlucky, especially in the second half. But whenever they got the ball they mostly just sent it right back. An improvement there and it might have been closer.

Given the first half I think the result flattered them anyway, if Owen had stuck his chance away it would have been fairer.

But three points is three points. I also thought Valencia was fantastic, really excited about him. Owen, well, he got what... 20 minutes? Not long enough to form an opinion.

Good three points (makes a change from the last few 1st games of the season) but Man Utd should have made a lot more of the chances they had - nothing unusual there

Valencia looked good when he stayed wide

No Carick is criminal - but Im concerned about injuries to the back four, we looked awful and where nearly punished a few times

I love Scholes for what he has done for the club but he really doesnt cut it anymore (to be honest I would have played Giggs and Fletcher in the middle if necessary, if Carrick isnt available)

edit commentary cant have been correct that this game was Fabio's home debut?

i didnt think it was a bad performance at all, first game of the season, different tactics to last season, jesus some people are hard to please. a win is a win.

niec to see valencia, hes definatly got allot more to give this season, cant wait.

also nice to see owen, and allso good to see brown back :)

I thought they looked ok today, Evra and Evans were both solid. O'Shea was playing out of position really but did fine. Fabio looked nervous first half but far better second. Considering we have Rio, Vidic, Neville, Cathcart, Rafael out then Brown and Evans not really fit I think we did quite well. I doubt many of the other clubs could have kept a clean sheet with that many defenders out.

Manchester United looked fairly comfortable, rarely got out of 1st gear.

Rooney was a highlight, looked very sharp and motivated, Valencia looked good, lively. Evans are Evra looked good, Fabio adapted well as the game went on, Foster looked much better.

Birmingham, just didn't use the ball at all well, almost every time they got possession they gave it away.

Manchester United, fairly slow steady start to the season, as Chelsea did, not outstanding.

Now watching the Suprs game :)
