Weekend Football Thread - 15/8 to 17/8 *spoilers*

Liverpool have been very poor today. They where awful int he first half, I don't think I saw them put together 4 passes throughout the first half... better for the 2nd period, but not much..

Very poor on the whole!!

Well played Spurs!

Should have had another penalty for the foul on Voronin but got what we deserved based on the way we played. Too many players underprepared going into the season and still short of numbers in attack.

Just when am I going to get chance to shift this warehouse full of scarves?

I've picked out and resewn the years that many times they are only going to be good for dusters soon :(

We played a poor game to be honest, it was like the Liverpool of a few years ago. Not starting to play until we are already 1 down.

Johnson looked a lot better going forward than backward as usual, and I do wonder if maybe we might mould him into a right winger rather than a right back.

Reina was fantastic, kind of harsh to see 2 goals conceded considering his performance.

Gerrard seemed to drift in and out of the match, Torres and Kuyt were largely anonymous.

Babel...well...I am no shy critic of his..frankly I have given him more than enough time to fulfill his alleged potential, and all I see of him is the same style of almost solo play. If it was me, I would never allow him to put on a Liverpool shirt again.

So...the weekend is over, and we're the only ones of the top 4 without 3 points (or 1 point even). Our team still looks a few players short, but the clock is running out (as are the funds) on that issue.

On the plus side..away to Spurs was always going to be a tough fixture. We cant all have the good fortune to start at home against the likes of Hull or Birmingham.

Work to be done at Anfield yet I feel.

Spurs were much the better side.

Liverpool looked very poor in the first half, a lot better in the second.

A lack of service and creativity in the midfield. It's too early to dismiss or really judge Liverpool, I thought that they missed Alonso today, Rafa shouldn't of forced him out.

Just when you think Benitez understands the need to play the same team on a regular basis (end of last season when we where great) he decides to use pre-season as a "kids" pre-season and mess around with all the players.

We played utter **** and deserved to lose. I dont ever want to see Babel on the pitch again, he was a waste of a shirt for 70 minutes of the game.

Would agree with this. I also thought we lacked width at times.

Babel on the left, who cuts in on his right doesn't help matters. Kuyt doesn't have the pace to penetrate so it was left to an unsupported Insua and Johnson, who looked pretty good going forward.

Disappointed with the result but hopefully it'll be the kick up the backside that we clearly needed, based on the first 45 minutes.
