Weekend Football Thread 23-26 *spoilers*

Cant be arsed to read through the thread but am I right in thinking that after today's game we're back to this is Liverpool's year and Man United need to spend x amount of money to win anything?

As for my thoughts on the game, you cant really argue that the best team won. I didn't agree with the guys on Sky Sports about who was the better in the first half (I thought it was pretty even) but Liverpool flew out of the traps in the second and deserved their goal. I think the 2-0 flattered them but when you're pushing forward to the extent we were you leave yourself open to these kind of things (we've done it to enough teams in the big games in the past)

I'm not too downbeat about the result tbh (although I bet that's not the general consensus of the United fans on here), you're always going to be playing second fiddle to the home side in these games but it's about keeping things tight and taking your chances when you get them (and that's how we won there two years on the trot before this and last season's games) unfortunately though we didn't create anything and a poor piece of play from Ferdinand opened the door for Torres at the other end.

Oh well bring on Blackburn on Saturday

Bet they didn't show Torres diving/tripping himself up in the first few minutes did they? Then his dive later on which he wasn't booked for by the coward ref? :p

He went down easily on a few ocassions but didn't dive (can't blame him for getting a free-kick when he tripped himself). The only actual dive I can recall was the Berbatov 1 right on half time which the coward ref acknowledged but just told him to get up rather than issue the 2nd booking :p

He dived about 60th minute ish, the ref waved play on so it clearly wasn't a foul but just forgot to book him clearly. No wonder he crumples so easily when defenders go near him :(

I'm watching the game again and that incident has just come up. He was running along side Evra and Evra just gave him a slight shoulder barge. Torres went down looking for the free-kick and it wasn't a foul but just because it's not a foul it doesn't therefore make it a dive.

CM, Well Carrick is an enigma this season. How does a player go from one of the first names on the team sheet to being an also ran ??? Something looks to have happened in the first week of the season because Fergie does not seem to fancy him at al. This guff about him being a late starter in terms of 1st team fitness wise is a load of guff if you ask me.

Something is not sparking thats for sure

Why does Carrick look worse, no Ronaldo. Ronaldo simply being in the team meant, opposition played a more defensive formation, if not picked more defensive players, they sat back more, pressured less and often devoted a second man marker to him. All that added up to a HELL of a lot of space all over the pitch. Carrick, only in their half, unrushed, with plenty of people running into space and he can be very good. Unfortunately, rushed, no space, no one to pass to in behind, theres literally nothing else to his game.

I was actually laughing at how he stood almost completely still for so long(as Diaby does frequently) both when the team had the ball or were chasing. I think Scholes was excellent, but theres only so much a single player closing down does. Rooney barely closed down, and Berbatov did actually try but there was a frustrating moment for him where he closed 2 people down in their half, and not Rooney, Carrick or either winger moved into their half to pressure someone with the ball so berbatov was passed around like he wasn't there. he turned around flapped his arms in a " is anyone gonna help" kinda way, and he had a point.

Berb's entire game, his entire value for 30mil is getting the ball, even in a ludicrously tight situation, great control, turn and pick out a pass to on player rushing forwards, Valencia seems completely unwilling to run in behind the defence, he rarely takes on his man and rarely uses his pace to get more than a half yard before crossing badly. Giggs doesn't have that pace and Rooney always wants to be deep and on the ball. You've got Rooney, Berbatov and Carrick who all want to be the guy behind the striker flicking the ball through for someone, Berbatov's the only one good at it though.

I though early on O'shea's complete lack of inteligence getting fowards(running overlaps, smart passing to the winger infront, one/two's) that Neville, who can still do that, has put in some great crosses and really looks like he might be getting back to form again should be on. Likewise Carrick should have been subbed, Giggs pushed in, Rooney on the left and Owen infront of Berbatov, Fergie handed them the game taking off the two clear best players in the first half.

horse dung, Torres flung himself to the ground at every opportunity, as did Kuyt. The penalty he claimed, sure Berba had his shirt momentarily, Kuyt was doing the same. however when Kuty flung himself to the ground, while he was holding Berba's shirt Berb's wasn't holding his, Kuyt also, embarassingly, simply wasn't knocked over by Vidic for the second yellow, sure Vidic attempted to knock him down, but there was no double footed lunge to make it worthwhile. It was a forearm to the side, which didn't knock him down, Kuyt simply thought it best to flop over and get him sent off rather than run in and try and score.

Thats what smegged me off most about Liverpool, they go looking to get people sent off in every single game, embodied by Kuyt flinging himself over to make sure Vidic gets sent off(probably would have been anyway) even though he was the only player in Utd's half, with almost no chance anyone would catch him, with an almost certain goal, he still chose to go down.

Both the Evra and Vidic fouls weren't close to yellow cards, had pretty boy not flung himself about claiming bloody murder every single time neither would have been yellows. The single reason I don't like Liverpool and don't want them to win, is the team/manager they have now puts cheating and diving ahead of scoring more often than any team I've ever seen.

Is it possible to disable the 'view post' button for ignored members? Sometimes the temptation gets the better of me and then I read the first sentence of the 'horse dung' and realise why that member was on ignore in the first place.

I swear some people watch completely different games, there must be some real hate in there.

G|mp's called him a troll in the past but I've never given him enough credit for that, his persistance is starting to make me think that the only possible explanation is that he's just trying to get a reaction.

So a tackel from behind is no yellow for vidic's first yellow and kuyt is a diver for being rugby tackeled by vidic.
£30 for sky, £90 for internet, £1000 on a pc. Your posts priceless.

You're all ****ing trolls !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OnE!!!

What a great result, who cares about ref decisions, Man Utd get enough of them at Old Trafford. Carra challenge didn't exactly seem a bad one looked to me like they just fell over each other, but WTF was Masch thinking of tackling VDS like that?

General review of Man U yesterday
----------------------------------

1/ Rio needs to be dropped, time for Evans to get a run in the team on merit
2/ Scholes needs to retire, under no condition should he be starting a game of this magnitude again
3/ Man U have gone from being reliant on Ronaldo to reliant on Fletcher
4/ Rooney was obviouly nowhere near fit enough to play yesterday
5/ Nani is hopeless, id wager he will be sold next summer
6/ Vidic needs to man up and stop ******** himself when ever he comes within 5 miles of Torres, it was obvious last season's OT performance was in his head yesterday
7/ O'Shea is not a full back, a proper one actually gets in the oppositions half

Some fantastic results at the weekend, couldn't have asked for any better really:p

Indeed, the weekends results have only been good for Chelsea really.

Arsenal looked shoddy again, MU didn't turn up and now Liverpool have renewed optimism.

1, Don't be daft, he's having a dip in form, he's still our best defender, Torres just 'did him'

2, Scholes shouldn't be playing in these types of games with Carrick, Scholes and Fletcher would have done a better job.

3, We're not reliant on Fletcher at all, reliant on a decent DM maybe but not just Fletch.

4, Agreed, should have started Owen and Berbatov.

5, Agreed, he's ****, no matter what Shami says.

6, I don't think he did **** himself :/ he was being marked by Rio for most of the game and only came near Torres when he needed to out jump him a couple of times.

7, He's not no but we had no other option, Rafael is injured, Brown not match fit, Neville is too slow. Who else was supposed to play?
