Weekend Football Thread 31-2 *spoilers*

Always enjoyable beating Spurs, them 2 goals knocked the stuffing out of them.

Ramsey really should be given a chance now. I can see why Diaby was selected for this game, height, but his 1st half performance was awful, improved 2nd half but still not good enough for the club.

Liverpool, as wonderful as beating the top teams is, don't forget you actually have to beat the other teams as well.

D minus, must try harder.

:D

Will losing to Lyon mid-week mean they are out of the Champions league?

Possible depends on other results as well iirc.

To be perfectly honest I think we'll be a different side against Lyon. Which one I have no idea. Better be good against Birmingham as I'm travelling 200 miles to see them!

99% sure they will be out if they lose to Lyon in the week...even if the other results go their way i still think mathematically they will be out should they lose...if they get a win or a draw then obviously they have a better chance of qualifying for the next round.

I think Lyon will batter Liverpool in all honesty...

arsenal looking good again. Chelsea,United or Arsenal for the league then?

As much as i would like to see United do it again, my money is on Chelsea.

I think it'd be a big mistake to sack Rafa at the moment it'd send the club into disarray

we need to have some faith, but as stupid as it sounds we need owners with money in January...we players! one in each area, defence, midfield and attack. Spend a minimum of 20 million on each and we could just about resurrect our season :(

What a dull match, nobody looked up for it at all, Rooney continues to play poorly, great goal though, Berbs was something special too. Why on earth did Fergie bring Obertan on? He's been out for a long time and played 90 mins on Tuesday so he brings him on and sticks him out of position on left wing

How many players is Fergie going to try and shoehorn in there before he tries playing a LEFT winger on LEFT wing

Hull could resurrect their season with 60m.

Maybe I have red tinted glasses but I think Cesc is truly brilliant and will be better than Xavi, sometimes it's hard to believe he's only 22, he's nearly the complete player already

The first Liverpool red, well just lol shocking decision.

Second can't complain, He got away with it against Owen, got away with it earlier in the game and then was finally punished. Those kinda "tackels" are better suited to rugby lol

I personally think he's better than Xavi, based on the fact that it was always him coming on that turned Spain from a side not conceding, to a side freescoring and utterly dominating the other side, there was a very obvious difference between Spain with, and without Fabregas.

As for inconsistant, he's not, a large portion of his game is assists, if the guys infront aren't finishing, people deem you've had a bad game, if they finish every chance you create for them people decide you had a great game, even if you make the same passes in both games.

I also don't know how people ignore it but consistantly since Gilberto/Flamini left he's dropped far deeper far more often than he used to helping out defensively a heck of a lot every game.

Not playing for Barca, in a what I think is easier to score in league, I don't think he'll ever seem quite as effective.

Obertan might have missed a sitter, but his interplay was otherwise much much better than Nani's, playing 1-2's to and passing/moving in triangles well to get past people. Rooney, I just still think looks awful as an out and out striker that team needs a Owen who spends his entire time on the pitch moving around the CB's making them nervous and making mistakes. Also still think Utd need Neville or a real replacement as Valencia just doesn't get those chances to move/pass/overlap like Obertan had in the final minutes with Evra. Valencia need's a pacey fullback who actually knows how to attack, pass and play the wing properly. Neville can still do that and his crossing is still incredibly good. Rafael is to crap defensively, haven't seen a game he doesn't constantly hack people down as he desparately tries to get back.

The first Liverpool red was indeed a red, it wasn't for the contact it was the intent of the jumping in with studs showing both feet off the ground.

He's lucky, he had zero control of himself and if Dempsey had planted his foot in Degans path, his ankle could be broken, its a dangerous tackle, flying in out of control with studs showing. IN all fairness those are frequently given as yellows, but they quite often give out red's for those types of tackles even if the contact isn't made.
