Weekend Football Thread 31-2 *spoilers*

I really don't think Benitez will go anywhere, it will cripple Liverpool if they have to pay him off.

But at the same time he is a **** manager so he has to go or nothing will change.

Liverpool wouldnt have to pay him a penny if he decided to walk as opposed to being sacked. If RM came knocking, he just might consider it this time. I would if I were him.

Why do the press all assume Mourinho would just up and leave at Inter? He's building an excellent squad there and they're becoming a force. It's probably harder for me to believe as I don't rate Real in the top 10 European teams and I couldn't give two craps about what they won 50 years ago. Why are trophies won with completely different personnel from the bottom upwards a reflection on the club atm? Right now they just seem impatient and annoying and if I were a top manager, I wouldn't even entertain their slimy advances

Real Madrid won the title in 2 out of the last 3 years, ahead of an almost identical Barca squad to what it is now?

Likewise they are a point behind Barca, with Real's single best player, by a mile, not having played for a few games and playing what Kaka and Benzema, and Xavi as there only "new" players different to last year.

But I can't see Mourinho leaving, he seems to want to come back to England at some stage, but he has another 20 years in management to go should he want to. He also strikes me as a manager that would never join a club he thought wouldn't spend through the teeth for anyone he wanted. I'd also say Inter have been a force ever since Juve were thrown out the top league for cheating, theres been no team close to Inter since then, not least because they took quite a few of Juve's players. Inter were the strongest team in Italy by a margin before Mourinho got there and not really sure he's improved them much, Muntari, Eto for Ibra is a sideways step really.

Liverpool do really need him to walk though as it will cost them 20mil to fire him, though 20mil to fire him, Real will fire their manager end of season unless he wins Champs league and La Liga, then they can get Rafa and he can do Liverpool a favour by buying Torres for 50mil.

Meh I'm just going on what I've seen including last year vs. Liverpool where they were an easier opponent than West Brom which tells me they wouldn't have much joy in the premiership. I appreciate they're a decent team but every time I watch them I can't help but feel they're still a long way off the top teams and their reliance on Ronaldo already is sort of embarrassing

Very true, but I doubt they would go for him now, and from what the papers are saying, Jose could be their target.

Hard to say at the moment, in a poll this weekend, the Real fans picked Benitez as their choice of replacement (and by a fairly decent margin too). RM have made no bones in the past few years about how they would like Benitez...and they may believe that he can do a better job at Real in Spain than he can at Liverpool in England.

We'll see what happens over the course of November.

Looking forward to the match tonight - two points clear at the top if we win.

Sheffield United are having a bad run at the moment and they've got quite a few injuries. I hope they don't raise their game too much in front of their home crowd because 'It's Newcastle'...

If we do win we'd be on 30 points from 15 games – an average of 2 points per game.
If we were in the EPL and had that average we'd be level with Arsenal.

I realise the competition is of a slightly different standard but it's an interesting comparison.

Muntari is still at Inter?

I thought so, they were talking/rumouring Harry bringing him to Spurs over the summer, didn't think he moved elsewhere, might of though. No idea how much he plays there or if he was any good.

Can't say I pay that close attention to the Italian league anymore, tbh barely watch anything from there since they stopped regularly showing games on C4 and had the good round up show. Even then it was hardly the most exciting league in the world. Keeping up with the Italian league normally means watching INzaghi get a stupidly easy tap in, created by his team then watch him roar off celebrating like it was a solo goal, the single most arrogant and lucky individual in football, can't stand seeing him play.

I know you've qualified it but I don't really see how it can be at all useful or interesting? Leeds currently have an average of 2.4 points per game, which would put them in 2nd place of the prem league. It doesn't mean anything except in that league though.

Because, as a Newcastle fan, it makes me feel better. :p

Hah Skippi, love that! :D

By the way, what do people think Arsenal's chances of silverware are this season? I didn't watch the Carling Cup game last week but apparently Arsenal beat a half decent Liverpool side with a bunch of the usual kids? I was impressed with some of the play that I saw on the weekend, but there is obviously still work to be done. Also, we have a habit of playing rubbish one game, and then playing our socks off in the next, very erratic are the Arse. I'm hoping this is our year to win something, anything, and then in the summer we need to bring in a world class holder. Somebody who can link the defense and the offense, someone who can thread the good balls through, but can also hang back and get stuck in when needed. Denilson is not good enough at the moment, neither is Song, every time I watch him I'm on the edge of my seat because of the way he usually just runs in at people, especially in and around the box.

We need somebody like De Rossi, Gattuso, Van Bommel, Cambiasso, just someone who can actually play the position consistently well. There are plenty of good holders out there and I think Wenger needs to sort that position out. Diaby plays better than Song, and if people read my posts then they'll know how much it hurts me to say something good about Diaby! Anyway, silverware, we'd better get something this season and at the moment I think we certainly deserve something, despite the odd sketchy performances I don't think we've lost since Man City?

Lol.

Its so weird being a Newcastle fan this season. Same issues are still driving us mad with regards to the top level management.

Yet we are top of the championship and don't look like we won't get promoted.

Are we happy that Hughton is now the real boss? Will he do well in the Premiership...again...?

Being top of the league is wet tissue over gaping cracks

Oh don't get me wrong - we're still in a complete state.

We struggled tonight, especially in the first half and we barely managed to beat Doncaster at the weekend. I mean come ffs, Newcastle United barely managed to beat Doncaster Rovers! (No disrespect to Doncaster btw).

With West Brom and Cardiff beating teams 4 and 5-0 while we're scrapping 1-0's and 2-1's, it goes to show that we could be doing a lot better than we are.

We've still got a squad that's as thin as a gnat's pubes and we've got an owner who's as dim as a glow-worms armpit. Who in their right mind would think it's a good idea to rename St James' park!

I would be annoyed that Hughton has been appointed permanent manager if he wasn't getting results. There does seem to be some unity amongst the players which we were lacking last season.

However, at the minute Middlesborough can attract Gordon Strachan and we have to 'make-do' with the caretaker's assistant (bit harsh on Hughton but you get the point).

The simple fact is, despite our current winning form, if we do get promoted and don't address our serious issues, we're probably going straight back down again.
