Weekend Football Thread. *spoilers* 22nd-24th

As DM will no doubt tell you if he sees your post, Diarra was never not good enough for Arsenal. He got fed up waiting for his chance in the first team after Flamini showed that amazing form he did for us two years ago, and kicked up a fuss until he got a move. I can't speak for definite, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's why he left Chelsea too. At Portsmouth he was pretty damned good, all told.

If we'd only got him a year later, he'd have probably ended up a perfect member of our squad.

And you can't seriously be using the fact that Real Madrid don't rate a defensive player as reason he'd be no good. It's Real Madrid, after all. They don't do defending.

Which is exactly hat we need.

Sneijder I mentioned because he would be cheap and can do what Anderson/Gibson/Giggs have been trying to do for 2 seasons get up and down the pitch and spray balls about.

He's also an excellent set piece taker which is what we have been missing since Beckham left.

Do we though? 90% of games we'll easily out pass the opposition and in the games we don't we've got Fletcher to run around a win the ball back and if he ever has a second coming then Hargreaves will be around also. Unfortunately for United in the one game where we did need a Fletcher or a Hargreaves one was suspended and the other was injured.

I can almost guarantee if United signed a Diarra or Palacios the United fans on here would moan constantly about them not being able to pass the ball, create chances or score goals the same way they moan about the likes of Anderson now.

Carrick aint bad a spraying the balls around either fyi ;)

Diarra is shockingly bad, everyone knows that except me and thee and Real Madrid that payed 20 odd million pound for him because he is exactly like Makalele in the fact that he sits there and breaks up play.

Something that United, Arsenal and Chelsea lack (without Essien).

One think which I'd say in support of Liverpool fans is that generally they seem always very optimistic (from reading RAWK) whilst United fans for no reason at all seem to always predict the oncoming destruction of our club.

They have to be optomistic after not winning the title for 19 years - the mathmatical odds (which dont necessarily match betting odds) on them winning a title are getting better and better after all

(after all no one has ever won the title four years in a row, so the liklihood of the Champions winning it is minimal - so straight away the odds have improved, and while they are playing brilliantly to start with will Arsenal have the same stamina for a full season? So the odds are 50/50) :D

Who have we tapped up?

Ask your manager.

Fletcher is great and running round and breaking up play but as soon as he has some space he thinks he's Iniesta and thinks he can play.

I would not like to rely on Hargreaves to be throwing himself in to crunching tackles and lasting more than 4 games at a time tbh.

The problem lies in the fact that Anderson doesn't seem to be doing either (passing or tackling) Diarra and Palacios get the ball and play it simple to the wingers or midfield partner. Now this is where Carrick comes into it, if you have Carrick further up the pitch and don't expect him to tackle and spray the ball about because you have a grafter doing that for him then he becomes exactly what you expect him to be, a playmaker.

Roy Keane was renowned for his defence splitting passes was he not?

No, he was renowned for breaking up play and giving it to Beckham/Giggs/Scholes to ping it about.

S'alright, we tell Fabregas to do that for us now. \o/

Mikel's great at that too.

Indeed he is but he won't always start now Essien is back.

A midfield of Lampard/Ballack/Deco as the playmakers and Essien/Mikel as the grafters is balanced.

What you have with MU is.

Anderson/Gibson as the none descripts

Scholes/Giggs/Carrick as your playmakers

Flatcher/Hargreaves as your grafters

See where my point is?

I think that's a disservice to Keane to be honest, he was a box to box midfielder who wasn't shy of getting forward or doing a stint in front of the back four

Wasn't until his final couple of years that he was as limited in what he could do as Palacios and Diarra are now

I maintain that we've never played with a player who's sole purpose is to win the ball and pass it 5 yards for someone else to take over

Exactly, Arsenal are fortunate in the fact that the little Dago likes to put his foot in and tackle, he then gets up and can ping it where he wants.

Those players are few and far between.

No we never have, I can see you know your MU footballing history :/

Keane was a box to box midfielder and I would be the last to do him a disservice but he never pinged the ball about like what your implying.

What he did do was win it and pass it simple, keeping possession, something we have missed ever since he left.

Hargreaves is the only player we have like that now, I lose count of the amount of times we give away possession lately in games.
