Weekend Football Thread. *spoilers* 22nd-24th

I can answer that... no, no he doesn't

One think which I'd say in support of Liverpool fans is that generally they seem always very optimistic (from reading RAWK) whilst United fans for no reason at all seem to always predict the oncoming destruction of our club.

There is no getting away from the fact that we have lost a great great player, but quite frankly our squad is still the best in the Prem (very close with Chelsea) and I believe Rooney will be inspirational this year.

Last year we played some pretty poor stuff at times yet still won the title, our defence is awesome and that's what contributed so heavily towards the glory. The same can be said this season, if Rio and Vidic play more games than not we will win the league again.

Are you sure you support Manchester United?

You were equally negative last year yet we managed to win the League and League cup and got to a Champions League Final.

What players would improve are squad and are not stupidly priced? As you seem to no more about football management than SAF....

Why dont you, and the rest of the gob***** who keep having a dig about whether support the team or not just do one?

Its like trying to debate with people who are emotionally and intellectually subnormal, you cant argue a point, you resort to route one having a dig at the person with the opposing view.

See, I could just sit here and say are you SURE you are a United fan? as you seem to be perfectly happy when the team looses and puts in bad performances, you seem to be perfectly happy that the team got humiliated by Burnley last week, you seem to perfectly happy to accept mediocrity and failure at the club. Why would someone who says they are a fan of a football club be perfectly happy with it playing bad football and having average players?

For most football fans, getting beat illicits a negative emotional response, and the level of negative response depends on the manner and means of defeat.
You and a couple of others dont seem to care when the team looses, or plays badly, so I dont understand how you can be fans.

I dont do it, but I could do.

haha and you're the typical Knee jerk know nothing fan who lives in a fantasy world of FM where you can buy who you want. We have no divine right to win anything yet we are one of the most succesful clubs in the world.

You never say anything positive about United, every time we lose you come on moaning yet oddly say nothing when we win. Yes we lost to Burnley but no it was not a humilation and we counted it with a terrific win at Wigan.

What player's can we buy that are not stupidly priced that would improve our team?

Where is the mediocrity and failure though? We've just won 3 titles on the bounce, reached 2 successive Champions League finals which could have been 3 had we done things a little different. We got to the semi finals of the FA Cup last season and again had things panned out a little differently would have reached the final of that as well, lastly we also won the Carling Cup with our young players

I see absolutely no reason whatsoever to be downbeat or disillusioned with the team or the club, sure we lost to Burnley which was a little embarrassing but no more than Liverpool losing at home to Villa given their current form, defeats happen it's part of football you cant win every game and you cant win every trophy either

You negativity towards the club you say you support is quite staggering to be honest, it gets me when the other United fans on this forum question Giggs and Scholes but at least they keep the belief and see the positives you on the other hand are just all doom and gloom - it's the type of thing you expect from a Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea fan because they're either all bitter or it's wishful thinking you on the other hand are just something else

It beggars belief it really does :(

I'm with atpbx in the fact that it seems Fergie is winding down and so hasn't been given loads to stregthen.

He's obviously not sure about Anderson, Gibson isn't there yet, Giggs and Scholes are knackered beyond belief and Hargreaves is dead.

Our only 2 midfielders that do anything are Fetcher and Carrick, we need te strengthen the midfield massively but he hasn't for some unknown reason.

The only reason I can see is that the expect Fergie to retire at the end of the season and A.N Other to come and buy his own players.

Ireland, Diarra, Sjnedier (sp?).........

There's pleanty, we need to strengthen the midfield massively in my eyes, I've never seen a team like Burnley, Birmingham and Wigan (to a point) boss our midfield about like they did :/

If you're only talking about the middle of the park, then there are two midfielders there, and you've named two good ones. Also, you've named 5 other players, so I don't think it needs to be massively strengthened. Having said that, it could be good to get another good centre midfielder.

Ireland would be stupidly priced.

Hughes has built the team around him and they're in no need for cash.

Ireland I'll give you, he's a player that is starting to interest me a lot but it's debatable as to whether or not you'd get him.

Diarra regardless of which one you mean is a no, if they're not good enough for Chelsea or Arsenal then why are they for Man Utd? Besides he's so limited in what he can do Fergie always goes for players that can do a multitude of different things, seems to me all either Diarra is good at is tackling/winning the ball back. Fergie goes for players who are a lot more dynamic than that!

Sneijder see Diarra, he spent so long at Ajax that tells you that there's a question mark regarding how good he actually is, it was only when Real's old manager decided to go Dutch that he finally left Ajax. Then there's the fact that Madrid are seemingly desperate to get rid of him and regardless of whether they need the money or not if he really was that good that indispensable they wouldn't even consider letting him go regardless of whether they've got Ronaldo and Kaka or not.

As for the aforementioned teams bossing our midfield that's a stretch of the truth also, we got complacent against Birmingham or who knows maybe it was an attempt to open the game up to suite ourselves but they certainly didn't have us under any sustained pressure for any point of the game. Burnley give or take a 10 minute spell when they scored likewise and Wigan the same.

Sneijder and Diarra, not United class.

The midfielders who I'd take at United and would substantially improve us are Essien, Gerrard, Cesc, Xavi, Inestia.

None of which we have a chance of getting.

I'd have Modric, I think he could do a good job for us, we've got to be due a discount from Spurs soon as well :D

I named all central midfielders.

I knew there was a reason I didn't read your posts.

I was asked to name midfielders who I would consider good enough not if we could afford them.

seems to me all either Diarra is good at is tackling/winning the ball back.

Which is exactly what we need.

Sneijder I mentioned because he would be cheap and can do what Anderson/Gibson/Giggs have been trying to do for 2 seasons get up and down the pitch and spray balls about.

He's also an excellent set piece taker which is what we have been missing since Beckham left.

Correction.

You'd want Modric.

Whether you could have him or not is another matter. ;)

Ferguson asked Harry, jokingly how much Modric would cost in our last meeting.

He replied "Rooney and Ronaldo." :p

(When Ronaldo was still there of course.)
