rooney's penalty claim...

1st he knocked the ball out of the play with his heavy touch, almunia throws himself at collapsing rooney(while the ball is out of play btw) at touches his legs(after he was already going down) referee buys it.

the difference between the reaction in media was incredible, a media black out, only people who hate arsenal pretend nothing happened... while eduardo was crucified for the same thing...

Not the same thing.

There was contact in Rooney's appeal, whether he was looking for it or not.

Still a dive in my eyes, but not in the eyes of FIFA or the FA.

Quite impressed with Adebayor from those highlights. Seems to be working hard as well as scoring and looks quite good value so far.

Get the feeling he's quite bitter towards the Arsenal supporters because that's the third interview he's given after a match and the third time he's mentioned how happy he is playing in front of supporters who love him.

They won't love him when they see his sulky side. And then he will want out again, because none of it is his fault.

Don't agree with that wiki entry at all. He jumped in to that knowing full well he wouldn't get the ball.

And yet, he seems suprised to be sent off.

Exactly, the only difference between the Eduardo and Rooney incidents were the actions of the opposition keeper, both Eduardo and Rooney were guilty of the same thing and yet one of them is demonised and the other defended.

It seems diving is okay as long as you make it look convincing.

I don't think he got away with it due to it being more convincing, purely because it wasn't more convincing. It's pretty obvious his only intention was to get the touch on the ball before the keeper and go down. Which is another thing that would annoy me if I was an Arsenal fan, his touch was so heavy that getting to the ball if he went past the keeper wasn't even a possibility.

Almunia was considerably closer to legitimately taking Rooney out than Boruc was to Eduardo, perhaps the dive being so unnecessary is the reason behind Rooney being let off the hook so easily. Doesn't make it right obviously, am just looking for reasons why the press/FA would ignore the fact that Rooney effectively did same as Eduardo.

It's hard to explain really, perhaps the media do have a role to play in stamping out this behaviour, because the fact is Rooney and Eduardo did exactly the same thing. Except one of them would probably have been taken out by the keeper regardless, and one of them was nowhere near being taken out.

Right hand side is a problem because there is no regular RB at present to build that foundation on. It will be interesting to see if and where Oberton fits into the big scheme of things. Reports have been mixed at best. Some say he is another kid produced from Clairfontaine school of excellence so that automatically makes him another Terry Henry. Yet he got loaned out by Larry White at Bordeaux because his form was gash

Totally agree there - apart from Oberton, where I heard that Blanc loaned him because of attitude problems more than form, but you could be right

RFB situation isnt helped by Rafael's shoulder being dislocated of course (Im not sure whether Fabio is distinctly further forward in his development compared to his brother is as true as some believe either) - both very good prospects undoubtedly

edit - difference between two penalties - Almunia connected with Rooney after missing the ball, Celtic keeper didnt get within two feet of Eduardo

Do you think Rooney would work as an attacking midfielder to link the play? Something like this.

VDS
Brown - Rio - Vidic - Evra
Hargo/Carrick
Valencia - Rooney - Nani
Berbatov - Owen

Admittedly that's quite attacking, but you could move Hargo/Carrick in alongside Rooney with the instruction to play DM and as long as Valencia/Nani track back to help the full backs I don't see the issue.

It's just that Rooney seems to create as least as many as he scores these days, so maybe consider a position where he can pull the strings?
