Weekend Football Thread. *spoilers* 29-31

From looking, I can find players who I think would suit but i'm not sure they would be anywhere near available.

Only possibles I can see - Van der Vaart, already mentioned, or maybe Ribery?

There's also Robben, although he's more of a winger?

Ribery ain't moving this Summer and wants to move to Real Madrid next summer.

Probably already done like the Ronaldo deal.

Or how about testing Chelsea with a bid for Ballack?

More chance of hell freezing over I admit, but hey, you don't ask, you don't get. :p ;)

Ballack isnt a play maker though, and while Chelsea are VERY good, do they really use out right pace a lot of the time like Utd are known to (ok slightly less likely after Ronaldo has gone, but Valencia and Nani arent exactly slow, and Rooney can certainly move when needed)

Surely Lampard is more of the playmaker whilest being offensive mid also

I also think it's a matter of existing players improving. Anderson and Carrick had a good partnership for a number of months before, we played well, kept possession and both of them played in sync. Now we have probably the most unsettled team we've had in a few years, no first 11 who are picked on a regular basis, no central midfield partnership playing game after game. No settled partnership up front. No regular right back. To be honest Carrick and Anderson who have both been pretty woeful this year in various games need to buck up their ideas.

Carrick has an excellent passing game and can intercept the ball from deep inside our own half but unfortunately will never just take the game to the opposition, he lacks that bite that the other top 4 have in Fabregas, Lampard and Gerrard. Chelsea and Liverpool also have a proper out and out defensive minded central midfielder, we don't. Hargreaves as much as I like him is basically banjaxed. Anderson has all the pace and skill and that vision to pick out a killer pass when he's in the right position but he's never in that right position as he plays too deep.

It's not a matter of Ferguson not having the money to spend, he does, I don't buy into the Glazers withholding it to pay off debt interest, I just seriously think there isn't a great deal of talent out there currently, and the ones that are haven't been discovered yet. Things will look better once we have Ferdinand back and fit, Brown getting match fitness back and playing at right back, Valencia and Nani settling on their respective wings and Rooney getting the support he should be getting and would be getting if we had a more attack minded central midfield.

If Utd were to put a cheeky bid in for anyone I'd choose Fabregas and Essien. :D

Essien would be cool - but absolute FAT chance lol

(Fabregas Im sure wants to move back to Spain shortly but otherwise would be very good too)

How to vastly discredit your title competitors and hugely improve your own team in one easy move ........well ok not that easy :D

You really think Arsenal/Chelsea would entertain a bid for one of their midfielders from a title rival? :p

Hell, why don't we go for Gerrard while we're at it? Lol. :D

There's a chance you may sign Deco though. :p

Problem with players like Deco is that you need to form the whole team around them.

Utd don't need an AM like Van Der Vaart (who I don't rate) but just a great CM like Essien, especially if we want to play a 4-4-2.
