Weekend Football Thread *spoilers*

Problem is, Chelsea are not loosing to teams like Burnley, where as United are, and not looking like taking points of their main title rivals either.

Took points off Arsenal, unlucky against Chelsea to be honest, made them look ordinary. Burnley was a one off game which we should have at least got a draw out of.

United 2 points behind now. I am fairly confident we will be either level or ahead come end of January. We still have to play Chelsea at OT too which we should win.

Anyone see this on MOTD: http://www.imagehut.net/images/rp6185fxid3oqy6lzka.gif

Quality haha! :D

People criticise Arsenal's away form against good teams, but Chelsea have also lost at City, drawn at B'burn, lost at Villa and lost at Wigan so that shows that they're not quite invincible and may slip up from time to time too. I think the title race is still wide open for anybody, if Drogba or Rooney get injured like RvP it could easily change things too

Funny how MOTD seemed to gloss over the Gerrard dive. Didn't even mention it - imagine if that was Ronaldo last year or Drogba, Van Persie etc.. They would have been slated for cheating.

^ yeah Gerrard's dive was pretty bad, but the whole match was so **** i guess they just glossed over it.

edit: Eboue. Eboue. Eboue. What a hero.

I didn't think there was anything wrong with Aqua man?

Other then Rafa not playing him. £20 million is a lot to spend on a bench warmer.

He's not played properly since March, so Rafa doesnt want to rush him back into games where he might do himself damage due to not being up to speed. Think he's due to play in the champions league game because it's irrelevant.

Irrelevant to us but not Fiorentina so the tackles aren't going to be soft as they want/need something out of the game. Pointless Rafa saying he didn't want to play him in a game like todays where something is of importance and he didn't want to risk him.

The midweek game will be of just a big a risk except Rafa will play some mickey mouse team which wont help Aquilani one bit.

Sounded like he was more bothered by the pace of the game than tackles flying in. I do agree though that he should've introduced him earlier, he must be fit enough now to play say 20 minutes against blackburn regardless of the pace.

You've also got to take into account that it's not just a case of coming back from a major injury, he's coming from a totally different league/style of play too. The last 30mins today was far from the greatest game but it was being played at 100mph and it was far from ideal to bring a new player into regardless of his injury.

Had we not been in such a bad run then I'm sure he'd have featured more already but playing a player that's not match fit in tight games is a risk. The one game where I thought he could have come on earlier was the Birmingham game; although it was tight in terms of the score, we were totally in control of the 2nd half and not only would it have been good to give him some minutes but his passing in and around the box could have come in handy.

But also United aren't losing to teams like Wigan, where as Chelsea are.

At least its nice to see Chelsea NOT get the advantageous decisions for once, and on Utd's current performances they are easily capable of hammering Chelsea into the dirt at OT when the time comes (like last season)

The performance yesterday was excellent considering UP is such a bogey ground for Utd, and given that we were missing 6 defenders from the 1st team squad before kickoff - and then Brown went off before the end (Im sorry to say that Im NOT sorry to see Neville injured, far too slow for the modern game, and I dont believe he is really 1st team quality anymore)

At least Vidic should hopefully recover from his illness to travel to Germany, I just hope Jonny Evans and OSHea can recover for next weekend
(and VDS of course) because that match will be a lot harder (AV at home at 5.30 when Chelsea host Everton ie easy 3 pointer unfortunately)

PIG has done well recently and deserved his chance but apart from one shot right into the corner wasnt really tested that hard, AV wil be a totally different proposition imo

edit - sorry meant to quote atpx

Valencia is doing brilliantly and without any injury I really expect him to score into double figures over the season (maybe not in any one particular comp though),great to see goals coming from midfield again - which we have struggled with until a fortnight ago

Good victory by Man City...just a shame Arsenal didnt do what City did today....still reckon that the title will go to Chelski in the end unless Arsenal manage a miracle and start beating teams regularly and not get beaten by lower teams as is always the case with us.

It's a real shame there's not a team 2 points below Chelsea that have the won the title in the last 3 years and is wholly capable of doing so this year.

Oh wait.

And what do Utd fans make of Gibson?

Upton park isnt a bogey ground for united, they have won something like 15 out of the last 18 there, ot something stupid like that.

His short passing is atrocious, his long passing is atrocious, he's not very mobile, he can't tackle but he can spank a ball in from outside the box.

Made me cringe when they were talking about him replacing Scholes on MoTD :/

That isn't what they said on MOTD, can't remember exactly but I thought it was something like 2 in 8!

Edit: Just checked, we'd won 3 of the last 11 there before yesterday. Sounds like a bogey ground to me.

and he calls himself a fan!!!

latter two just like Scholes then hahaha (Im sure the first two charachteristics will improve, although I do wish he could tackle better)

Yesterday we saw EXACTLY the same incident as occurred at Chelsea v ManU whereas the defender clears the ball and the attacker runs into his raised foot and then there's a second movement (Carvalho on Tevez and Evans on Drogba) and yet each incident got the opposite reaction from the ref. On one the attacker is yellow carded & the other results in a goal from the freekick.
Perhaps some of you 'unbiased' ;) experts could explain the difference.
