Weekend Football Thread *spoilers*

BAE being investigated by police after grabbing one of the 'fans' by the neck who was giving him abuse by the tunnel at the end of the game.

EDIT: Benoit Assou Ekotto that is, by the way.

Bah, got lashed.

Villa out muscled us everywhere, they defended really well and we couldn't cross to save our lives.

Well done Villa :(

Sometimes i think man utd get complacent and are laid back from the start in less higher profile games, until up to the last 20 minutes or so they get there act together and press more.

the amount of times man u have left games until "fergie time" and won points over the years is incredible, if they did it in normal time it would be less stress for people :D

From what I saw Villla were barely coming out of their half in the 2nd period, one "attacker" having the ball and other villa players 30m behind him - even if they took it in turns to attack

didnt see until just after the 1st sub - Im guessing it was Giggs, but Evra and Rooney where seemingly everywhere but for once not that effective (apart from defensively), Valencia did ok but his crossing was awful, but its clearly showing how depleted we are in midfield and some passing was truelly dreadful

edit - pretty thankful we only lost one point on Chelski (not even going to think about why it was only 3 minutes at the end - which makes no sense at all)

Well if you read what i wrote then you wont find anything about me mentioning anything to do with goals per game. I mentioned it because if you minus the goals from the cups and eurpean games that he didnt play in spain then his scoring isnt that much better than before.

You should have stuck with the stats for all competitions because if we look at just the League games like you say, then you're even more wrong. He scored 82 goals in 214 League games (1 in 2.6 games) for Atletico, he's scored 48 in 67 for Liverpool (1 in 1.4 games (and better than his overall record for us). His strike rate is twice as good as what it was.

Of course playing with better players has helped but there is no denying that he's a far better player now than what he was at Atletico, which was the point I was making and seemingly you are arguing with.

And no, I don't know where you can get chance to goal stats.

edit: So who's starting a thread on that diving hypocrite Rooney then?

nail. head.

Exactly what I was insinuating before. You've got to remember Baz, this seems to be the anti-Liverpool football forum. As soon as someone/something negative for LFC happens everyone's on the bandwagon. Rooney, diving? Nah sorry I was too busy brushing something under the rug :)

Good too see the top 2 dropping points, hope Arsenal can beat Liverpool tomorrow and tighten things up a bit.

Great game at Oakwell today, I thought we were the better side - absolutely battered Newcastle in the 2nd half.

Didnt see the game but i can believe that :o

just hope QPR beat WBA.

Also You still have to come to the toon yet so lets see what that brings ;)

Having seen the highlights, I think Villa won with the "Harry Redknapp" school of thoughts. They threw lots of men behind the ball, defended well, and hoped for a half chance, which they took.

Can't complain really, yes it's negative football but most teams who come to OT adopt a similar strategy, and some happen to engineer a win from it, like today.

Putting a silver lining on it, at least we only lost a point to the leaders. I just wish we could not lose at home for a season.

[Edit] At least all this talk of the forums being "anti Liverpool" is giving me a good laugh. Some of you really need to have a look at what the mods let you off with before you go claiming things like that, heh.

Actually even though it was a pathetic dive again, after looking hopefully he did actually get up walk off and didn't get in the ref's face which at least shows a half an ounce of improvement. But when I thought about it, I remember two maybe three specific dives this year from Rooney. There was one basically in the next game after the Eduardo one wasn't there?

Either way, while Rooney is a bit of a diver and worse than quite a lot out there, Gerrard really takes it to the next level, he dives every game almost without fail. I'm surprised if he goes an entire game without diving, I'm not surprised if he tries it more than once in a game.

Divings not great, its not the be all and end all of things ruining the game either as some idiots make out its the only thing hurting the game at all. But there are levels, Eduardo, one dive, most players, one dive, hell Eduardo probably has gone down softly more than once as has almost everyone. Some players do it altogether too often and it seems rather more deliberate than someone just making a rash decision in the heat of the moment.

Then theres Gerrard, someone who if the team is losing runs around looking to create problems, barging into people and going down screaming for the decision, diving in the box screaming his head off for the decision.

Sorry but theres no comparison, I think Rooney goes down more frequently than is the "average" maybe by quite a lot, but he's not playing in the same league as Gerrard when it comes to diving.

keep in mind I'm a gooner whose team has been on the receiving end of Rooney diving more than once, one in a hugely crucial game to us (the 49). I'm also not sure I can honestly say I remember Gerrard diving against us off the top of my head. I hate Gerrard with a passion, I really dislike Rooney in terms of how he is on the field aswell. Yet I can see the difference, as can most of the world, except Pool fans.

EDIT:- supposedly Xavi went down in the box way to easily, essentially dived, everyone does it a couple times, I won't write a single player off for diving once, or even a few times ever. Its those that actively do it repeatedly and go looking for it constantly rather than make a poor decision in the heat of the moment. One's a poor spur of the moment choice, the other is just full out intent, looking to cheat, I can't express in words what an utter cheat I think Gerrard is.

I dont know why people dont like liverpool as a club, they have a history both domestic and european to be proud of. What they dont have is a manager who knows what he is doing, i dont even think he knows half the time.

Arsenal for the win tomorrow though either 2-1 to them, or 2-2 draw.

My problem with Liverpool is the arrogance of the club, players, manager, and especially the supporters.

You were definitely the better team but 'battered' is a bit harsh. :( We always sit back after going 1-0 up it's mental.

Your left back seemed quite good today, the skin head bloke? Probably MOTM for me.
