Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

Decided for Christmas I am going to get my mate to use a proper keyboard (he uses some Microsoft membrane thing at the moment). But obviously to keep it a secret I had to discuss keyboards with him in a round about way, managed to find out he likes an Alice Keyboard and doesn't care about a numpad. Thankfully this made it possible to actually get one so I jumped on a 20% discount code for Keychron and ordered a V10 UK ISO with K Pro Brown switches. Then as I didn't want it to be completely standard I replaced the stock keycaps with some JakeTsai Matcha SA profile ones. Now to keep it safe for 4 months.

Well, got the Akko fairys switches today (45 for £10 ish) and they're great, like typing on marshmallows, not a lot of noise at all.
Spacebar had some foam padding added but now sticks out like a sore thumb when typing so I'll need to add more foam.

My only problem is that I only bought 45 so my numpad & top rows are still Keychron reds which again now sound so loud!

I got the akko penguins, slightly heavier tactile silent switches, put a few in my keyboard to test and very quiet with a decent tactile bump. Got them for my work k8 pro which also had reds

I think I've come to terms with being a linear kinda guy, interested in the tactiles though just to see.
I'm really liking these fairys, ordered another 45. I now see how this can get out of hand...

I tried some horrible tactiles previously but as the akko were pretty cheap I decided on another try. I have linear on everything else :D

I've spent an hour tonight browsing for keycaps, seen a couple of nice sets but I struggle to visualise stuff so undecided on a nice dark green/ black/yellow set
or burgundy/white/black
or black, cream and orange

They're under £20 each so maybe not great quality? I can't justify the extortionate prices (IMO) of some nice sets.
First world problems eh?

Anyone tried keyboard with Hall effect switches yet ?
Yeah, I have a Wooting (wooting module inside a Tofu case).

Really great for gaming, average for typing when I had the Lekker 45 switches. Recently swapped to the Lekker60 (v2s) and typing is much improved to the point where it might become the mainstay board on my desk.

I'd definitely like to try a hall effect kb for gaming, for now I'm very happy with my Zoom 65. I have just replaced the caps & switches - BSUN Jade Rosales switches & Drop Rohan Aldburg keycaps. I am really pleased with the result, the caps are really nice to type on and the switches are very smooth with a lovely sound.

..decided the white only layout on the AK820 was a bit boring so spiced it up little and hope my son appreciates it!

...aaaaaand he lasted an hour before asking for all white caps to be put back on!
I'll teach him style one of these days.
