Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

I'm sat here browsing for caps and really struggling to find ones I want with a UK layout.
These GMK clones are lovely to type with (very soft touch and KOA profile, they're like the comfy old man armchair of caps) but everything I like never has the right layout for certain keys :(

Just complaining like an old fart

I've been using my Wooting board more and more recently and am just in the process of finding a nice case for it. I did have it in a Tofu v1 that I'm a bit 50/50 on so in the meantime I've ordered a Freebird60 case and a Salvation case to see how they both work with the Wooting PCB. Seems like a lot of people have had success modding it into either of those cases.

For now, I'm rocking the PCB on a piece of foam and it's surprising how good it actually feels. I totally appreciate that it looks absolutely bonkers and very ghetto but it really does feel better than it did when it was in the v1 Tofu!

Keycaps are GMK Sumi, Wooting 60HE Module with Lekker60 v2 HE switches, then lubed/tape mod on the stabs (although factory they are actually really good). Replaced the silicone pad between the plate and pcb with a poron foam pad too!

Got some Durock V3 stabs and some lube as i wanted something to do.

Am shocked at how much better it is now. Even the space bar is pretty much silent with no rattle at all.

I decided to take the blue tack out of the original space bar and what a job that was. Took ages to get it all out and while it did the job, i don't think i will use it again.

Nothing like good stabs properly lubed and tuned

First attempt at anything like this and am very happy it worked first time. :)
If you are still interested in doing something inside the space bar, you can buy foam that is cut to size with the right keycap vendor. I found that I didn't need it if I'd spent time lubing (and somtimes tap modding) stabs but it's always an option that's easier to remove than blutack!

Have ordered some cheap ones off the rain forest, should be here next week. (China)

Not sure i need them now though.

If they're cheap then it doesn't hurt doing a comparison between with and without, I quite like my spacebars without foam now just because they feel ever so lighter on key release and I didn't find it made enough of a difference to sound when you've got lubed stabs, lubed switches & certain plate materials (POM vs. FR4 vs. PC etc.)

What’s everyone thoughts on the glorious stuff? Making a custom keyboard and it isn’t cheap, but currently MUCH cheaper thanks to Black Friday. 75% wireless (not Hall effect) with raptor switches, brass plate and my design is working out at just over £300. I’m a coder and do a tiny bit of gaming with it….

Only thought I have is on the brass plate and that comes down to what sort of typing experience/feel you want. I've always found brass plates really stiff, much prefer polycarb or FR4 and I've found that it has a big impact on the sound too.

If there's a polycarb plate available I will pretty much go for that 100% of the time.

Very overpriced for what you get. There's so much competition now. For what you're getting at £300 from a custom Glorious build you can get much better built boards.

- Neo75CU starts at just over £100
- Qwertykeys Evo80 is under £200
- Monsgeek M1W V3 is under £200
- Wobkeys Rainy75 / Crush 80 both well under £200

Just to name a few. Hell I've seen fully built Mode Sonnet boards on the bay in as new unused condition for just a smidge over £300. All of these are superior to the glorious stuff at the price point, and you won't have to deal with the absolute garbage which is the Glorious Core software either.

Me too, I always prefer FR4, but I would like to try Polycarb but I think it might have too much flex for my liking.

That Monsgeek M1W V3 has caught my eye, working out at under £100! Just have to swap the switches out.
