The one thing i don't want him to do is put a full strength squad out against bayern in the second leg, use every last drop of energy, pick up some more injuries and then throw away the very little hope we have at gaining places back in the league and possibly going through to a semi final in the FA cup.

I think we need to give Wenger another year as a minimum, we're not a club that is set up at the moment to handle such a monumental change. We're not like Liverpool, Chelsea, United, etc - we just don't have the same board level infrastructure that they have. We do not have a director of football, all of our board members are businessmen primarily, with a couple of "football men" both of whom are older than Arsene I believe. With Arsene doing much more than most managers will be accustomed to, I don't think we can make the transition to a new manager until we've set the club up in a way to allow them to be a success. In my mind this means we have to give Wenger another year, and the agreement is that at the end of the year, we will transition to a new manager, no more extensions on the table.

The biggest problem we have is to identify a suitable replacement - I honestly don't know who it should be. I struggle to think of a manager that would be interested in the role, would be available and would suit the club. If only Klopp had never gone to Liverpool.

Most clubs do not have directors of football, most clubs have money men at the top and it's completely made up that Wenger is some kind of all encompassing manager who does more than others, it's just this daft fear factor. He's built up to make it seem like getting rid of him is near impossible.

Also Wenger, for all he does, is failing, the team hasn't improved in the slightest. Wenger chooses his transfer targets with the help of a large team of scouts and recommendations from other clubs/manager he is friends with, just like every other manager pretty much. The fact is Wenger has been making bad choices, his two best buys of the past 6-7 years were quite literally offered around on a plate and Arsenal had the most cash at the time to secure the deal, they weren't pieces of epic business and scouting.

The few clubs in the UK that have director of football positions, several of them got rid of it after it basically failed to work. Spurs have done, Chelsea... I'm a little unclear on, they had a guy, then he resigned... or didn't. Utd don't have one and Mourinho has complained at previous clubs(including Chelsea) that he didn't want to work under one. Poch doesn't have one, AVB complained about wanting such a person doing that work for him, then complained about the choices of purchases made.

DoF isn't even a defined role, at most clubs it seems to be a guy more for advising the board, someone without any particular qualifications, an ex pro who may be able to recommend players the manager and other scouts can't. For the most part they don't seem to do a lot independently that any manager won't have ultimate control over the choices made.

Also Liverpool's group of guys helping to offer player recommendations was constantly criticised under Rodgers.

he's had 10 and done nothing, Wenger just puts out this illusion that he is irreplaceable, the fact is he's got no drive or ambition left otherwise your boys would have been serious challengers in Europe . Get Dicanio in, he'll separate the men from the boys and failing that he'll separate their heads from their bodies instead.............

I've created a new thread for discussing Wenger's future as it was taking over the Arsenal thread. Same rules apply as the Arsenal thread, no match chat in here until (at the very earliest) MOTD has been shown.

Make a poll :D

Just a thread to talk about Wenger only.

A mod should stick up a poll so I can cancel out your vote Jonney :D

Premature to be making a decision IMO, I don't think changing the manager at this stage of the season will have a positive impact given that the CL and League are already lost so basically it would be on the basis that we think a new manager would have more chance of qualifying for the CL. Realistically who are we going to get mid-season, and more importantly who could come in and instantly get better results using the existing squad - I can't think of anyone.

So my vote would go for 'wait and see'.

However - if we want t change manager I just hope we do it early i.e. During May or early June so the new manager can identify targets and get them lined up to sign on 1st July, giving him time to work with his new squad rather than waiting until the season has kicked off in August like we often do.

Don't know why people want to see him go. If he goes now, so will at least 3-4 players. We will end up not qualifying for top 4 as soon as he goes and could end up worse after.

Only way I want him replaced is if it is with a clearly superior manager, but who is available that fits that? I say sign him up for a few more years then get in pep or kloop in.

WengerSTAY! :D

What makes me laugh is the fans on Arsenal TV saying he has to go because it's toxic in the stands now.

As if that wouldn't happen to the next poor sod that takes over and doesn't win the league in 10 games

I've been to every home match in 2017 and it's no worse than I've heard in the past.
