Western Digital Red's

Any update on these drives? I'm waiting to buy my NAS and a couple of these.

The 4tb hitachi drives are a little too expensive for me currently, although they seem to get decent reviews. Any ideas if they are going to drop in price anytime soon?

If you're not worried about warranty then buy the Touro USB drives as they contain 7K4000's and are often on sale for around £150. I've done this with 50 so far!
Also got a ton of ST3000DM001's which haven't quite dipped below £100 yet but £101 for 3TB is the cheapest you can get at the moment.

If you need quiet then the Hitachi 5400rpm drives are still about £30 less than the WD Red drives and proven products. But they don't come with a load of BS about being more reliable and ideal for NAS's so maybe that doesn't work for people.

Interesting about the Touro drives, but I'm a little worried regarding warranty.

Not a fan of Seagate drives as have had a fair few fail on me over the years.

I'll give the Reds until the end of the month I think and if there isnt a decent supply I'll get a couple of the Hitachi drives, probably the 4tb ones to make me feel better :)

The question for me is, does the length of the warranty indicate the reliability of the drives?

I know that it doesn't mean that the drive will fail the second the warranty expires, but as a cost saving measure, it would suggest that they had enough drives fail in the second and third years to make it worthwhile for them to shorter the warranty.

So if it is going to cost me an extra £20 for a drive with an addition 2 years of warranty, I would consider that worthwhile.

Of course, 5 years would be ideal.

Stock lands week 2 October.(

Sorry for being thick but is this week 2 October as in w/c 8th Oct or the week of the 2nd October?

I'm beginning to lose the will to live waiting for these drives - been sat on a shiny new DS213 for 3 weeks now and can't do a thing with it!!!!!!

What other drives would anyone suggest for a NAS?? - needs to be pretty quiet as it will be sat in my front room!

They are NAS drives designed with 24/7 use in mind, also have 3 year warranties which is a nice change from manufacturers reducing them down to 1 - 2 years.

I hope OcUK's price comes down a bit, most have them on pre-order for £139.99.
