Western Digital Red's

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 2 x 2tb RED's are en-route!!!!! *crosses fingers nothing goes wrong*

Here's a quick question, should I be running some sort of check on them when they land in my DS213??

An earlier post suggested running a "full sector scan" - is this really necessary? What do you guys usually do with new drives for a NAS?

No. Bung them into the nas and let it do its thing. You can access smart data etc from the dsm control panel if need be. full sector scan is not necessary in my humble opinion.

Just ordered a 3tb red so fingers crossed.

Think I'll hold tight for a few weeks and let the price settle down on these! Hopefully when they'll get below £135 soon on the 3TBs and I'll order, need like 3 of them but am in no hurry!

The Seagate 3TBs ***NO COMPETITOR HINTING!!***. New product so bound to be expensive on launch

I've got a couple of 3TB on order and I am just hoping they live up to their reliability expectations as I've had 4 Caviar Greens fail in the last year :(

I've had excellent reliability with WDC Blacks and enterprise drives so I'll let WDC off for one bad model (or batch) but I am hoping Reds don't have any new product glitches!

I want to upgrade my 1TB SAMSUNG HD103SJ to a 2TB drive and just wondered if I'll be OK using one of these (normal desktop use in conjunction with SSD) and is it worth the £25 extra over a Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB?

I'd probably say no, unless the extra year's warranty is worth that to you! The RED's are supposedly designed for 24/7 NAS use so I doubt you would see any "improvement" over the Green drives in a desktop environment!

I had a Change of mind and decided to go with 2 X 2TB Seagate ST2000DM001'S For £132 from a competitor . I know you only get a years warranty and there have been reported problems (what drive doesn't) but these drives are good performers and i'll keep a backup just in case ;)

Not pleased

Ordered yesterday and they are now on special this week at £18 less for each drive! Since I bought 2 this consitutes a considerable saving.

Don't want to have to send them back and order again. Waited long enough already.....

Scratch what I just said.

It took 5UB all of 3 minutes to refund me the £36 difference.

Amazing service.

Thank you very much.

Incidently, this saving makes these drives even more of a bargain.

Just cancelled my order at another shop and have ordered my 2 drives from OCUK, great price. Not sure why I had to pay for delivery though? Didnt have to last time I purchased. Does it not apply to deals?

Works fine here, suspect your account might of become unlinked. Go to the store, login and then under My Account and You and your account check that your forum information is there. Password should be blank but username should be filled in.

You should get free delivery on This Week Only deals.

Try creating a dummy order with some other products and check everything is working OK.

Check your account and forum details are correct.

You can post in the Customer Service section of the forum with your order details and ask about the free shipping.

Right, looks like my account was a little out of date! Everything is now updated and I have done another order for more drives and got the free delivery!

However, there doesnt seem to be an option to cancel the first order! Do i need to phone in the morning?
