Wetherspoons

best thing about wetherspoons - you cannot beat steak night, a huge plate of meat (mixed grill) and a pint of lager for £6. dunno why our has changed the dressing on the salad though, it was nice before.

Cheap but atmosphereless like others have said :(

Would be miles better if there was music, does anyone know why this is?

save money on the PRS licence afaik :)

Four in my area,

Neath - The David Protheroe, Nothing exceptional, however neath as a whole isn't that impressive for a night out, in fact, it's quite depressing.... Food is ok i guess.

Port Talbot - The Lord Caradoc, Tend to go in on a thursday around 6, and it's always nice food, seems quite popular, never had a major problem there....

Swansea:
The Potters Wheel - Nice to meet groups on a night out, unusual layout due to the building position, but always has people in there, and not normally of the chav variety, only downer is it's right next door to flares, time/envy and jumpin jakks, so you do get some right idiots meeting up there.

Bank Statement - This is down in wine st, and a nice pub, as the name suggests it's an old bank, the only thing I dislike, is that there's one area to smoke in (i don't smoke) but it's in the part of the pub that's got all the seating and the low ceilings.

The old licences i'd agree with that statement... ie, the weights and measures licence and also the public entertainment licence, but now it's all in one licence, so I don't think there's an additional fee for it, (might be wrong about this though)

IIRC wetherspoons did initially market their pubs on good food portions, no loud music, and relaxed atmosphere.

Horrible places, over crowded, disgusting food, takes an age to get served and mainly retarded staff

What he said based on the one located in Rochester & Maidstone High St

We've got one of each in Loughborough. The Wetherspoon's (The Moon And Bell) is usually quieter than the Lloyd's (The Amber Rooms)

Both are cheap places for a few drinks, the food isn't too bad i've found too.

One of the ones in Derby though is amazing. The Babington Arms, although it's a tiny little pokey place, has the most amazing ranges of real ales all the time.

ive been to the one in wolves and one in kettering and both are quite plesant places no scum bags good service cheap beer nice jugs can just sit n chill out with a few mates plus i quite like the mixed girll and burgers out of there :)

I'm after opinions.

What do you think of the Wetherspoons/Lloyds No.1 company as a whole?

What words/phrases spring to mind when you think of a Wetherspoons?

What do you think of their customer service? And how do you think it could be improved?

cheers :)
With the Yeovil branch in mind, I'd say- cheap beer, poor food, no real 'atmosphere' and policed by droids.

Sounds like the standard pep talk dynamic companies give all new starters.

Indeed. I've been there. You can be only be so enthusiastic about a job when you're knee deep in sick and lager for £4 an hour. Be careful about false optimism.

As others have said i think it entirely depends where they are and what day it is etc!

For instance, the one in Hanley, Stoke-On-Trent is pretty crappy, because of the clientèle whereas the 'Spoons in Congleton is quite a nice pub for a drink with mates on a weeknight, but on the Friday/Saturday night its far too rammed to enjoy, but that's probably because it's the only pub in Congleton. :p

Yeah, I have been to the one in Wolves many a time with mates before heading off somewhere else for the night. Usually go on a thursday for the curry night, although it is microwaved it still doesn't taste to bad and you get a decent portion as well.

Since coming to Salford though I've yet to be in a Wetherspoons but have been in a Lloyds. Lloyds is ok but I much prefer Wetherspoons as it's more relaxed.

Microwave meals at not particularly cheap prices.

Not very cheap pints anymore, but they are of higher quality now.

Used to be something like a quid for a pint of stella in my local wetherspoons, but it tasted like it'd been left on the side for a month. Horrible stuff.

Seems they've hiked the pintage price up and increased the quality as well. I heard they used to get beer on the cheap because it was close to its best before date?

Oh right :) thanks!

I guess its a nice place to catch up with a mate - esp as they have non smoking areas too :)

But on a night out, we used to just pop in for some cheap shots and leave for some bopping! :D

Another thing i like about them is there the only mainstream pub that i know of that always have a good selection of decent real ales at very nice prices plus if you ask them nicely in the ones ive been to they will give you a small taster of each one before you buy, cant complain with that for customer service

Motherwell one was crap, got chucked out for being underage. The glasgow one(next to central) was really good! Was getting pitchers for myself all night and got one for free :D Pick a combo, tell him what it is,pay a fiver and get absolutely smashed......then go to a club. ;)
