I am also torn between buying a high end motherboard or a low end one. My reasoning is I keep my CPU and Motherboard for a couple of years like 5 - 7 normally and by the time I upgrade I have to get a new mobo / Cpu / Cooler anyway. I am also the most unluckiest person at overclocking or someone with little patience. I just want things to work etc and not have to tweak settings all the time. Reading some of the comments on here I think some people tweak their PC more then they actually use it.

Installed 2 days ago, havent touched and done any tweaks since.
3.8ghz, 2933mhz ram, on a B350 gigabyte gaming 3 board.
current cpu stepping has a hard limit around 3.8-4ghz and I wait for amd next stepping generation to find out when they reach a 4.5ghz or so oc.
Until then, rock on my 1600

@laddy @8 Pack I went for option between for statements.
Ryzen 5 1600, X370 chipset , Blck able overclocking and Top tier brand over their standard range, Aorus K5 :D

Still running default Bios ( f1) and corsair LXP 3000mhz runs fine off the bat, will have to BIOS update and see how the Trident Z 3466 runs

although bios reporting AIO temps at idle for stock speeds is 35-7c , room temp 19c ...

Whatever you get - Ryzen system is the way to go, seen so many comments where people are so chuffed with their system. Amd have come up Donald here - Kudos :D

If you care about Linux support, avoid Gigabyte. Not compatible, and not willing to help. Just asked OCUK if I can return my AB350M Gaming 3 - will be swapping it with the MSI AB350M Mortar board. Hopefully the efi stuff is less crappy too. Also holy crap first post in 6 years!

Complete and utter tripe!!!!

Running a K7 fine for over a month, Everything works out of the box.

Well I decided against the Air 240 case and gone for a 400C instead so can fit any motherboard now, widens my choices quite a lot, is the Asus CH6 still considered the one to go for if future proofing, certainly dont want one with any video outs as they would never get used, the extra USB is much more sensible.

I've ordered the Asrock X370 Fatality Gaming K4. Should have it built next week, but for £150 I think that's pretty good value.

I`ve just ordered one, with a 1600 and 16 GB Corsair LPX 3200.

Seems to be the "good value" choice of X370s. Not sure about memory compatibility, but that seems to be a bit "pot luck" at the moment anyway. Hopefully it'll behave itself reasonably well. I`ve not owned an Asrock board before, but i`ve built a couple of machines with them, and they've been OK.

So I've built mine now.

I've got a 1600 @ 4.05Ghz using 1.30v. Very pleased with that.

Only issue is the memory. 16GB Trident Z RGB 3200 will only post at 2400 max. I'm hoping that @AsrockMB get this sorted soon as it seems to be working ok on their other boards from what I've heard.

Nice build and nice overclock.

It's odd how some cheaper B350 boards can reach 3200Mhz memory speeds, and supposedly higher end X370 boards can't. Hopefully it is something that can be sorted with BIOS updates.

I'm about ready to buy my 1600 but I'm completely undecided on motherboard (and ram for that matter).

Does anyone know when we might see some of the new boards like the MSI B350 gaming pro carbon? Seems to be available in the states already..

I`ve been undecided on which MB to go for. So much so that I changed the order at the last minute from the Asrock K4 to an MSI X370 Pro Carbon. From user reviews that i`ve read, it seems the MSI board currently has better memory support and is getting mostly good reviews.

After weeks of procrastination I decided on a CH VI, would have gone for a gigabyte gaming 5 if it wasn't for the abysmal placement of the m2 slot. I've got a 1700x and flare x 3200 c14 ram to go with it, fun times ahead tomorrow.

I was tempted by the Gigabyte Gaming 5, but reports of a poor BIOS put me off.

I switched to Ryzen 5 1600 yesterday with 16GB of Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200Mhz, seems to be running fine at 3200 16-18-18-36 with the CPU at 3.8Ghz. This is on a Gigabyte GA-AX370-Gaming K3. Can't believe how clean the board looks still :p

MSI X370 Pro Carbon. v1.4 BIOS

R5 1600 @ 3.8Ghz with stock cooler. 3.9Ghz is not stable. Vcore is 1.375 and I need to do a clean W10 install, waiting for Dark Rock Pro 3 mounting kit.

2 x 8 GB Corsair LPX 3200 @ 3200, selected A-XMP profile 2 and it worked.

So after a frustrating weekend trying to get my MSI B350M Mortar/ Ryzen 1700 build to post.
EZ debug lights for ram and cpu would light up with nothing coming up on my monitors.

I received some much appreciated help from Jamin280672 who advised that the MSI B350M board wouldn't play nice with my Corsair ram until the BIOS was updated to a recent version.
It shipped with v1.0 BIOS and I didn't have any Crucial or G.Skill ddr4 to hand on get it to post. So purchased a cheap crucial single 4GB dimm from the rainforest on 1 hour delivery.
It worked! and I was able to get into the BIOS.
Unfortunately even after updating to the latest version it still wouldn't post with my Corsair LPX 3000Mhz 2x8GB
So currently running off a single 4GB dimm until my G.Skill turns up later this week.

Thought I'd share incase others encounter similar issues. It was discussed in this thread:
https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/msi-b350m-mortar-not-posting.18777410/page-2

Looking forward to overclocking my cpu next weekend.
